Other events, 2021 - week 3

We don't normally concentrate too much of qualis of lower events but there's not a great deal of tennis going on and there's a lot of names I don't know, so good to give them all a shout out.....

In Nairobi, J4, in qualis:

Girls:

Maria Ustic (age 13) won her QR1 match 0 & 0 and then lost her QR2 match, 9-11 in the MTB cry

Gabia Paskauskas (age 15 and presumably the little sister of Kristina?) won her QR1 and QR2 matches but lost out in the FQR

Anjali Kotecha (agge 15) won her QR1 match but lost the QR2

Imogen Haddad should be in the main draw

However, it's the boys who are flying the flag, with two through to the MD, to join the DA four.

Boys:

Maceo Simpson (q7) (age 17) won both his quali matches, including beating the top Q seed 2 & 3, and qualifies for the MD

Thomas Aston (q5) (age 15) also won both his quali matches, including beating the q3 seed, 3 & 2, and also qualifies

Jeevan Samra (age 16) lost his QR1 match

Will Jansen (age 16), Oli Tarvet (age 17), Freddie Ridout (age 17) and Roy Keegan (age 15) should all be in the MD

THat's an interesting list - Roy (who might be playing for Ireland, or England, sites differ) is a very promising youngster, and Will too.

Nairobi, J4:

Boys:

R1:

Slightly unfortunate that two of our lads drew the two top seeds, Freddie got the top seed and Roy the second seed. Both lost in two sets.

And wildcard Sergiy Rafiee (?) also lost. As did Maceo.

However, R1 wins for Will Jansen and (q) Thomas Aston.

Oli one set up but play suspended till tomorrow.

Girls:

Imogen won her R1 match

Also:

In Turkey, J3, Joel Pierleoni won his R1 match too

In COsta Rica, J4, Louie Fletcher lost in R1

In Nairobi, Oli Travet finished off the win of his R1 match held over from yesterday.

But Tom Aston lost his R2 match

ADD: Both Hep and Matt Rankin also got wins in R1 in Israel, J4  (Matt with a very convincing win over the 7th seed)

Yippety, skippety, Joel takes out the top seed (and top-70 player) in the J3 event in Turkey

R2 Joel Pierleoni (age 17, ITF 174) def. Stefan Popvic (age 17, ITF 63) 2-6 7-6(7) 7-5

THat sounds like one were Stefan's coach will have exacerbated his stomach ulcer....

R2, Nairobi, J4:

A nice win for Imogen Haddad (born 2005). She's now in the quarters, and gets the top seed next.

But all the boys lost (Tom, Will and Oli)

Darn, Joel couldn't quite follow up on the amazing win yesterday.

In Turkey, J3, he goes out in the QFs, 4-6 5-7

(won his QF dubs match, 10-8 in the MTB, though)

Matt Ranking won, as did Hephzibah.

So, two into the QFs.

OK, so this is off topic but after comments a couple of week ago that Hep was playing a girl named Noah, and then a girl called Daniel, she's now playing a girl called Liam.

I think the Israelis have got a bit confused.......I think SC needs to go and sort them out. As an act of kindness.

I think she lost to Liam in last weeks tournament, I remember thinking it was a bit unfair at the time.

Nairobi, J4:

In the Brit+ v Brit+ QF, it was Roy Keegan and partner who came out on top.

But they lost in the semis 8-10 in the MTB, which was a shame.

Israel, J4:

QFs:

Matt Rankin won easily and is into the semis (and in the dubs semis too)

But Hep lost to 'Liam' (but also won her dubs QF and is into the dubs semi)

(and, yes, Spireman, you're quite right - it was Liam who beat her last week, I missed that....)

Israel, J4:

Matt lost his SF

But Matt and partner won their dubs SF:

SEMI-FINAL Boys Dubs: Matt Rankin & Adi Dagan (ISR) won, 4-6 7-5 15-13 (!!!!!!) - got to love 15-13

However, couldn't quite repeat it in the final, losing 3-10

However, in the girls dubs, Hep and partner won their semi, 10-7, and then:

FINAL: Hep Oluwadare & Leyla Elmas won, 4-6 6-0 10-4

ADD:

Oooh, shoot, looks like it's all confused and Matt's score was for the SFs and they were a round behind. (I swear that the draw had that score in the final box as the result for the final). But, hey, watch this space....
