It looks as if Naomi's serve is no longer the weapon it used to be. Despite making 15/23 first serves in the first set, she only won 8 of them. Naiktha made 20/32 and won 17.
Katie has a fellow qualifier, from Spain (Guerrero Alvarez), Naiktha has the Chinese player who beat Bouchard en route to the FQR in AO qualifying last week (Yue Yuan).
Didn't see any of Katie this morning, but the streams are of good quality, so could come in handy this week.

I never understand why they cant at least fill out the draw with local pairs - if nothing else, the byes teams get an opening warm up, however, easy. Or they could utilise one or two pairs made up of those in qualies.
At a pro level, with ranking points on the line, it seems disappointing to not have full draws even if the standard is little lower than ideal.

It also affects the ranking points awarded. If they lose these QF matches, they will only get the one point having had a first round bye, whereas if they had played and won the first round they would have 9 points in the bag.
A bit irrelevant for Naomi, Eden and Naiktha, as the lowest counter any of them have is 15
Katie is on a streamed court, but Naiktha isn't. Play starts at 6.30am our time, so she could be on around 9.30/10am but obviously just depends on how those first 2 matches go, but NB 8.30am our time, converted from TAs above post.
Think I'll watch that match. Bar that cameo vs Alicia at the Progress Tour, I honestly can't remember the last time I saw her play. Probably some streamed US ITF in 2019.

Going to be a lot later for Katie. The Japanese player who she beat yesterday (must be a LL) is a break up midway through the deciding set in the first match on that court.
There is a big 1/20 favourite in the 2nd match, so that one possibly will end fairly routinely in straight sets, although Nara isn't really the type to blast someone off the court in double quick time.
