Weeks 1/2 - ATP 250 - Delray Beach, FL, USA (hard)

I have a good feeling for Cam this year, even though I havent placed him as high as I think he could go in the predictor.

Cam has a 2-1 h2h over Mannarino, played twice in Mexico. Mannarino won last time, in early 2020. Matches havent typically been tight, though.

Could go either way, suspect Cam needs the first set.

QF:  Ariel Behar & Gonzalo Escobar (URU/ECU) CR 136 (67+69) defeated Cameron Norrie & Jonny O'Mara CR 245 (187+58) by 7-5 4-6 [10-4]  hmm

Match ended on a double fault served by Jonny.  hmm

I watched the whole match

You probably need to watch it back to understand where I'm coming from with this statement coming up= It was entertaining to say the least, at times Adrian Mannarino went full Nick Kyrgios mode by not trying at times, using a slight tweak to his knee as an excuse.

Cam played very well and dug deep when he needed to, especially in the second set when Mannarino lifted his level. There were times when Cam let Adrian's antics get to him, he played a couple of poor service games which led to Mannarino suddenly jolting to life, but on the whole, Cam deserved the win as he did play the better of the two, more consistently.

This win could do his ranking all the good but he will probably need to step his level up a notch to beat Tiafoe. On his opening two results of the year, Cammy could have a solid 2021 where his rankings goes up rather than down .

Good stuff, whatever Mannarino was playing at, that is a decent win. FT is beatable but fifty fifty match .

I agree, never been that convinced by FT but I always forget how young he is, it seems like he has been around forever. Definitely winnable for Cam

Also watched that

Tiafoe was unconvincing for 2 sets, over-using the drop shot, all of them were poor and cost him the point. He won 3rd set 6-1 but that was because his opponent got riled at umpire for a late warning given to FT for deliberately slowing down play, he did eventually get the time violation but BF felt it should have been given earlier. The commentators (our very own Simon Red and some American bloke Ravi) thought that Frances was, slowing down play to aggitate Fratanngelo, which it certainly did.

So Cam has to play his game, let FT drop shot him numerous times and do not fall into Frances' tral of "I'll takw my time coming out at start of a set to aggigate you and let it affect your game". Oh and keep the crowd quiet roo lol, FT will have them on side too.

I'd say on today's form, Cam is the marginal favourite but I suspect Tiafoe will raise his game and take the win in 3.

Last meeting should give Cam confidence though, 2018 Hopman Cup he beat him in straight sets :).

Thanks for the reports, Tennis Saltire.

I've always thought Mannarino is a bit of a drama queen so I'm not surprised by your comments. Cam was the Bet365 favourite for the match too which was slightly weird but proved right.

But I like Frances and like his tennis, even though it's a little unorthodox

There are quite a few French players (both men's and women's) who like a bit of dramatic flair shall we say...

Very pleasing result but interesting too reading about the antics of Mannarino.

But whatever was going on, you can only beat what is in front of you and Cam has done that very well.
