Week 1 - WTA500 ABU Dhabi. UAE Hard

Is there a chart anywhere showing the ranking points a player can earn for each tournament?

Not sure if there is a chart (although the draw usually shows the breakdown in the pdf formats) but sites like this one linked show how the player will gain for next round win (nett improvement) and winning the event

https://live-tennis.eu/en/wta-live-ranking

So, Jodie has moved up 8 places in live rankings (now at a live 252 position)with todays win and will gain 5 more points and then 7 more for qualifying for the main draw.

Other sites may do this more granularly - a lot of folks here use Openera rankings but I personally dont like the layout/structure and  this one works best for me

A version that explicitly mentions 2021 appears to be on the WTA site, but not easy to find.

  1. Go to https://www.wtatennis.com/rankings/singles
  2. Scroll down about a quarter of the page, until the list of the Top 100 appears
  3. Click the link in the red oval in the picture below (can't link directly to it as it appears as an overlay element on the original page, not a new page itself):

  4. That seems to be the most recent update. Other links on the WTA website seem to only link to a recent press release about the changes, without providing the table. This was the only link I could find that did also provide the tables and the 2021 context.

live-tennis is actually showing Jodie as up 11 places in their position change column to indeed live 252. The "+8" is her net points increase : correct as it is 13 - 5.

live-tennis appears to have her points for her next match wrong. Being just a two round qualifier, if she wins she should get the 25 qualifying points so another 12 points. 2 qualifying rounds are 13/25. 3 rounds are 13/18/25.

I do like openerarankings for accuracy though here it isn't currently updating Jodie's points at all.

The 'WTA 500' points that IICSICHBAC references shows the table of same points as WTA Premiers from last year with 470 title points. Similarly WTA 250s have the WTA International points of last year. Folk have previously commented on the rebranding err not fitting in with the title points in the way they do for ATP 500s and 250s.

I had a feeling she wasn't going to take part. She wasn't present for those Battle of the Brits. events.

I think Katie Swan is now 3 out from qualifying but 2 of the alts for MD are MDO so she may need 3,4 or 5 to withdraw depending on whether they withdraw from MD or QD, she is an Alt for a 25K in Abu Dhabi 18/1 so must be on her radar to take the place if comes up.

ETA Fujairah UAE not Abu Dhabi

Some improvements on the WTA site as you can now view draws and results etc. You can also download pdfs of draws showing prize money, points etc. Not sure about latest scores at the moment etc.

www.wtatennis.com/tournament/2028/abu-dhabi/2021/draws

This is the qualies draw page as a starter.

Not as good as the old App but at least it is something!

Anisimova has withdrawn (illness) and so Alexandrova becomes 17th seed and takes her spot in the draw - and would play Heather in round 2

 Prime doesn't usually cover quals.
