Well done to Anne, I am not a big supporter of MBE's (and think the title is an anachronism) but well done to her anyway!

Absolutely well deserved recognition for Anne's achievements but agree the honours system needs seriously updating. It's good to have some sort of award system to recognise outstanding contributions to the nation but having so many different levels of merit spanning so many different disciplines will always be contentious and problematic for the awards committee.

This is horrific, but it is only alleged at this point - however, it's not reporting 'tittle-tattle' if it's out there, as a full-blown trial, and reported in general media:

The CPS must feel it has a case and the woman herself must feel strongly to bring it to court after all this time, 14 years. Id have thought it would be very hard to prove either way though as there will be no witnesses or presumably DNA evidence?

who knows what happened or why? Hopefully justice will prevail , whatever side that is on.

Both the online and paper version of the Daily Mail reports  that Anne Keothavong competed in 4 Wimbledon Championships. The Daily Telegraph reports that Anne competed in 4 Wimbledon's between 2004 and 2012.You can't believe all you read as Anne actually played in the singles at Wimbledon 13 times from 2001 to 2013.

Very poor research from both papers. I think only 5 of those entries were direct acceptances though, and the rest were wild cards (plus once in qualifying)

Anne failed to qualify in 2000 and the rest as you say were either direct entry or wild cards . She certainly never qualified as after Karen Cross  in 1997 and 2001 , the next British woman to qualify for Wimbledon was Katie Swan in 2021.

Well reading various media reports from 9th December the allegations have destroyed his once lucrative career since he was first accused of rape. When it emerged  he would be charged he informed his employer and the Solicitors Regulation Authority. He was suspended, then handed in his resignation saying he has struggled to find work since.

Hard to know what to think. Just hope it's a fair trial for both sides and the right result. I would hate to be on a jury deciding someone's fate in case you get it wrong.

As an aside, am guessing that Andrew Bretherton is the son of Peter Bretherton

www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/sportother/8750667.lta-president-opens-floodlit-courts-at-home-heaton-club/

Peter was LTA President, ex Lancashire county player and played a lot around here, Heaton club is in Bradford. Andrew being his son would make sense as he and Anne K would have been in tennis circles

The former Lancashire county player won the national father and son and national father and daughter tournaments with his offspring Andrew and Alice.

I have many happy memories of playing at Heaton on Monday and Thursday nights and in Yorkshire League matches, he said.

My wife Annes happiest tennis memories are at Heaton and we both watched Andrews and Alices games developing here.

Bretherton is a former 45-and-over national grass-court doubles champion and is Lancashires No 1 over-65 player.

Only one in a hundred rape allegations recorded by police even result in a charge, let alone a conviction. I'm sure we hear a lot about unsafe convictions in the media but they must be vanishingly rare given the burden of proof to even result in a prosecution, let alone result in a conviction. Obviously, we don't know all the facts of this case, so he could be one of the rare unfortunates.

Don't really want to comment on the case but makes GB's performance in Glasgow even more remarkable given Anne has had this to deal with as well in her private life.

Found not guilty apparently

At the end of the day it's a true fact that only two people know what happened that night and unless there is evidence that 100% backs the complaint you have to be honest and say we will never know. Just hope both sides can now move forward with their lives.
