Australian Open WC

Tennisforum last shows Fran 241 as in then 12th alt Katie Swan 254 (SR), 16th alt Maia Lumsden 258 (SR) and 20th alt Jodie Burrage 262. No sign of Naiktha Bains on the list.

Ah yes, I looked at official rankings, not rankings at entry cut-off.

Ah, cool, I tend not to visit tennis forum ( I find it top all over the place and fanatical!) so forgot too look there. Mens tennis forum also decent For doubles news.

I note entrylist teen site is now listing doubles entries as does darts rankings, a big plus !

Ah thanks, I missed that. I've corrected Jodie's qualifying entry ranking from 258 to 262 on my original and the quotes.

Is an SR in wta terms like a PR in atp terms? What does the S stand for?

thanks !

Surprised no qwc places going to Qatari or emirates player? For helping AO out of a hole, at least

It would help if they had any ATP or WTA ranked singles players. Apparently they don't so I'd say too much of a stretch for singles at least.

Yes, it is similar to the ATP PR - it stands for Special Ranking. The WTA have their own set of rules for eleigibility, how many competitions it can be used etc - one to note is that it only applies to players ranked 375 or above.

Out of interest if cut off ends up being more than Naikthas current official ranking can she opt to save her SR. Her SR is only 20 odd places higher than her current ranking

I'm sure we can get Johnny Mac a main draw wc if entertainment and crowd pleasing/nostalgia is what its all about, remember a time I think when Tomic went to the AO injured and with no intention of playing because the prize money was high, that took opportunity away from another player, for me is not that dissimilar

Complete tosh. Andy is serious about his return and plans a full return. Nothing like Tomic , who is a waster anyway, or giving someone like Mac a place.

more akin to goran , who got the Wimbledon wild card and won the whole event

Johnny Mac plays legends so arguably provided that anyway.

Agree on Tonic, is that why they introduced the new rules for half the prize money if players withdraw?

Some people feel that wildcards and qualis should be abandoned for exactly that reason - that pure merit should be rewarded - 128 places means 128 top ranked players.

Some others think wildcards should be abandoned but qualis kept. Some top 112, say, and 16 based on best quali players. Of course, that can be argued to be unfair to the 113 player and takes a merited opportunity away from him/her but it's a valid system.

And some, like, me, like 8 wildcards to throw something else into the mix - very young players, some ringer who's just had an amazing result, a crowd favourite, whatever..... they are 'joker' players - and should by definition encompass a broad range of other considerations, of which entertainment and crowd pleasing are big ones - if tennis doesn't please its audience, it dies. And nostalgia can be part of that too.

Would be amazing if Andy could repeat Goran's victory!!!
