With the US Open over and only Indian Wells , Paris to come at 1000 level, and similar at junior and wheelchair level, then several of the year end ranking spots are guaranteed. And this means several player of the season final slots can be slotted in or ticked off. More coming later !

So here is where we are at:

Mens singles - as has been evident for some time, its between Dan and Cam - both already
Qualified through PoM already ,

Womens singles - Emma guaranteed year end top spot - already qualified as well

Mens doubles - joe is certain mathematically, Neal and Jamie have run out of room. Well done Joe and he qualifies for year end vote as a result of that

Womens doubles - between Heather and Tara (and Harriet?) but not over yet I think?

Wheelchair mens - Alfie guaranteed top - already qualified

Wheelchair womens - Jordanne is guaranteed top and qualifies as a result , well done her!

Wheelchair quads - Andy Lapthorne is guaranteed top and qualifies as a result, congrats Andy!

Juniors Boys - Jack PJ - guaranteed top spot ? If so he qualifies

Junior girls - Matilda - guaranteed top spot? If so, Matilda qualifies.

Ill assume so for Jack and Matilda unless I am
Told otherwise !!

Really good to know that Jo Konta who won Nottingham, the first  British win  in a WTA tournament  on British soil  since 1981 does not qualify. However it's  good to know that Tara Moore and Katie Swan qualify for what they have achieved. Jo's win was before Emma's breakthrough. So obviously winning a WTA tournament does not count for  Jo  but other  main tour wins by Cam,Dan and Emma do.

now now- thats not the way it works Rosamund,

1) the criteria are open and transparent and objective. Its always been player of month winners and ru's, or those placed first in various ranking lists, or those winning a specified number of events or PoM nominations. Jo doesnt get any of those . Sorry

2) you seem to imply theres a conspiracy or slight against Jo? Theres not. See point 1 above

3) I personally used to be a jo fan. I have wavered on that and a large part of that is the continued views expressed by some on this board that there is a general intent to do Jo down on this board and in general. Being frank, I find it draining and it does us a disservice and is unfortunate for Jo who those folks profess to support. ne

4) there is still time for Jo to win PoM or be runner up before the middle of December

5) Dan, cam and Emma qualified as they are either PoM winners, runners ups, or number ones. Jo is none of those.

6) is the system flawed - yes, but I refer you to the open, transparent and objective comment above.

7) Jo has been nominated once, in June, when she won the WTA title. No other months. One summer a swallow doesnt make. And in that month she didnt get votes to get in the top 2 and win PoM or be RU, so clearly she wasnt even thought of as top in that one month, for her one achievement of the year - hard to see what basis she has to be in the player of the season vote...?

Well said Jon.  It's never easy to get these things perfectly right - all you do is to set in place criteria which you hope are as fair as possible.

I've always been a fan of Jo's and I really hope she can get herself fit and start competing again.  However when it comes to voting for the player of the season I would hope we would be looking for someone who has made a considerable rise up the rankings during the course of the year, and at the moment Jo is in the unfortunate position of having suffered a huge drop, so I really can't see how she could be considered a candidate.

Jon you know perfectly well as I do that Jo is not going to perform in a way to be POM this year or again. She has only started 18 matches in 2021 and a similar number in 2020. Her knees will no longer let her compete for any length of time. I think she was trying to protect her knees. by pulling out of BirmIngham and Eastbourne before the CovId issue stopped Wimbledon. and the Olympics.  Similarly in the US  summer Hardcourts she only lasted 2 matches before injury intervened. I'm anticipating that she is going to retire soon.  Fact was in June Jo could not get enough votes when she won a  WTA title. I give up.

Jo's one nomination for winning that title was pipped in June by Katie Swan winning through Wimbledon qualifying.

It's player of the month, not who won a title.
JonH has explained this in more detail.

Hey, this is just supposed to be a bit of fun, isn't it??!
Fact is, there are some months when there could be umpteen worthy winners (like this month) and others where a more "humble" effort gets the prize, because it was a quiet month.

I' m not suggesting Jo should be player of the season. That is quite obviously Emma.  No contest.  But Jo could not get enough votes for  June when she won  a title. It's Jo' s knees that have done for her. It seems a problem that cannot be treated.  . Never  mind qualifying for Wimbledon and losing in the 1st round beats winning a WTA tour title on British soil for the first time in 40 years.

If the gripe is why didnt Jo win it June - why didnt anyone raise that then? Retrospectively seems a little late in the day? TA has explained why she lost it.
