Id say alongside Cam, and Dan, Joe Salisbury isnt in here yet but must be up there with a shout for player of the year so far. Id have said Fran would have topped womens but its actually hard to call anyone out as rivalling those men. Long way to go of course, we are only half way!
Its a pretty sad state of affairs on the womens side if we are saying the player of the year so far is a woman who hasn't won a match for 3 months having lost her last 8 matches.

I know - Emma maybe performance of the year so far but its hard to say shes player of the year on the womens to date - anyone else stand out as having performed consistently well , as the three men mentioned deserve credit for?!
That'll be the GB women whose cumulative top 10 rankings ( as said in the Strongest Nation thread ) in next Monday's rankings will be at least very close to the best GB total this century ( probably for a fair bit back in the previous one too ). They will total about 1900 with all 10 in the top 300.
I know that Emma's very unexpected Wimbledon run gave it a huge boost. I know we look and hope for more from some ( I do ) given such a promising group from a couple of years back. But the back-up is there and we continue to have historically pretty good depth ( OK, against not great previous ) with still decent results during this year.
Fran in particular and also Jodie earlier, Katie B and Katie S have certainly had some pretty decent results along with of course Emma
The deprh remains there, wirh enough results for that cumulative ranking, much more than our men, while clearly Dan and Cam have done really well.
As has been said before they do seem to suffer a bit on this forum by much more detailed interest and analysis than our men get.
Again, yes I hope for more from some, and the recurrring injuries are a concern but, especially in these pretty unusual times, I think they deserve more of a break.

the point you make is correct I was just commenting really if anyone deserved player of season to date
more than cam, Dan or joe who have done well all year long by and large, and I didnt see a
woman player who could say they had done enough to get that mid year accolade !
Certainly granted we have those big achieving players on the men's side this year. But for sone time I have worried more about the longer term on the men's side, and still do, very promising as say Jack D may be. We have more coming through currently and seemingly down the line on the wonen's side, and overall not awful results this year.
So while to some extent I acceot the player of the year context and no big overall performer like these 3 guys, when I see stuff like "it's a pretty sad state of affairs on the women's side ...", I tend to respond.

You can't compare the rankings now with those historically. They are artifical rankings boosted by 2019 performances. All of our top 10 women are ranked higher than they would be if normal rankings were in place except for Fran and Jodie who are ranked about where they would be. Heather in particular would be just inside the Top 200. Our top 10 women would be 250+ places lower in total if normal rankings were in place.

Yes, if normal ranking periods were in force the GB women cumulative rankings may indeed be a fair bit worse than the current official top 10 total at 12/07/21 ( which has come out at 1901 ).
Though looking at most recent performances, our top 10 in the WTA race ( which just counts WTA as distinct to ITF tournaments ) have a very much better cumulative total of 1587.
It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
I reviewed my qualifying criteria and took out UK Pro League and British TOur as a route, last season they where in and had validity with international tennis curtailed. This season, it is impossible to think any player should be regarded as a potential player of the season through these routes - good performances in these events should appear in PoM votes and see where that takes them!
The main criteria now then are:
- PoM winners and runners up
- being GB#1 across mens and womens singles, doubles, juniors (singles only) and wheelchair rankings (singles only)
- number of PoM nominations in a season (6 or more)
- number of international tournie wins in a season (6 or more)
I still forecast we will have a sizeable field and all contenders will be here - we have 11 at the moment
We now have 13 qualifiers for end of season Player of the Year vote, as Emma and Liam join the party. See first post in the thread for details
But list is
Fran Jones
Tara Moore
Cam Norrie
Dan Evans
Stuart Parker
Neal Skupski
Lloyd Glasspool
Hannah Klugman
Katie Swan
Emma Raducanu
Liam Broady
Alfie Hewett
Matt Rankin
Lissey Barnett joins Gordon Reid on 5 titles and just one win off the magic 6 and a place in the year end vote. Well done to her and heres hoping Gordon gets one title at least in Tokyo or New York
Regardless of play off results, Harriet joins the party for end of season vote
