Other events - week 50

Many of the same batch of players who did well last week in Harare are giving it another go this week, in the second event there, so that'll give us something to watch.

In qualis, both Emmie Wright ('03) and Ellie Blackford ('06) came through two matches of qualis without barely losing a game.

Emmie has also won her R1 match 0&0 (Ellie yet to play)

Will Jansen is in the main draw (but no sign of Tavis)

Harare, J5:

Joining Emmie Wright:

Will Jansen won his R1 match very easily.

Ellie Blackford also won her R1 very easily.

(Ellie Blackford, as a 2006-er, is beginning to look quite interesting - I wonder if anyone knows anything about her - I'm assuming she lives out there but might be completely wrong.....)

All three also won their R1 dubs matches (the two girls playing together)

In Tunisia, J5:

Jadesola Cole won her R1 match in style too

She is also a 2006-born player, and one who has featured before in our U12 Nationals, the Open Super 12 Auray etc.

Will be interested to see how she gets on - it's only her second ITF event, I think, and there's been some quite nice video clips of her playing recently.

RE Ellie Blackford - doesn't appear that she does live out there. You can glean some info and background from her twitter (and her mum's) feed - https://twitter.com/EllieBlackford4 https://twitter.com/JenBlackford

Thanks, LordB

Great minds think alike - I'd just been off snooping too and crossed with you - I was about to put it up.

Yup, I'm completely hors piste, couldn't be wrong-er - she's at school in Chelmsford and, as you say, lots of stuff about her in the UK, thanks to her twitter feed and her mum's one

Anything about the Wright players, LordB? I found a little clip of Emmie training at some club in Romford - which might make sense if the two families/players went out there together (they're playing dubs together too, which helps that theory)

The only thing I could find was a tweet of congratulations regarding a G3 doubles victory for Emmie by Essex LTA.

Thanks, LordB - all gratefully accepted.

In Harare, J5:

BOYS

Fourth seed, Will Jansen (born 2004) won his R2 match, 1 & 2

Is also into the semis of the dubs

GIRLS

Emmie Wright came through a battle, winning 6-4 in the third in her R2 match.

Ellie Blackford (born 2006) beat the 4th seed, although possibly with a bit of help, winning 6-0 3-1 retirement

They got thrashed in the doubles (but all the better for the singles )

Harare, J5:

QFs:

Easy win for Will Jansen (2004), and into the semis

He's also made the finals of the dubs

Pleased to see him doing well - it only seems like yesterday I was watching him scampering round at the Auray U12 event

Poor Ellie had to retire in her QF.
And Emmie lost hers rather easily too.

Jade Cole also went out today, in Tunisia, J5.
But she was playing the 3rd seed so it was always a hard ask.

Harare, J5:

Will is into the final, winning his semi in style, 3 & 0

And that's one step further than the previous two events.

AND....

He won the doubles title, with partner Itay Bity, from Israel, 6-3 6-2

Here's to the double, Will !!!

Will had to retire in his singles final, which is a shame.

But he was already 6-7(2) 0-4 down.

Good week, though, and hope he recovers soon.
