Thiem for me although recognising Kenin as being a really good second choice.
I just really like Thiems game overall and was a little disappointed that he didnt win the ATP finals today (Medvedev played well though and ultimately deserved to win.

An interesting and unexpected poll - thanks Jon H

 Here to please, Brittak!

Hope all well with you!

Ok thanks, a bit quiet at home but mentally in a decent place. She started working again at the local tea rooms, Bettys, for a few weeks as a waitress, but that is now shut down, although hopefully will pick up again pre Xmas.

She has also been studying economics on some Univ of illinois home tuition course and loved it, so now enquiring about swapping course to Econ at University for next year.

How's your son doing, is it all ok or still quite severe?

Glad she is ok - and hopefully she will choose the right way forward. Economics can be a tough choice but being interested in the subject matter is always a good thing. My son was saying on a FaceTime call today that the economics module was the hardest that he was finding on his Business course and that even those who had done well at A Level were finding it a bit difficult.

He seems fine though and is coping well although has had to isolate several times as some of those near to him have had to have tests etc. However he has happy with his flat mates and has already sorted out his accommodation for next year which is a good thing.
I think he will be glad to come home for Christmas and hopefully there will be some sort of reset when he goes back In January as there is a prospect of more testing and the start of a vaccination programme.

I am actually very proud of him as he is talking very sensibly about coming home and being tested beforehand so that we are not at risk and being very mature about any social interactions this side of Christmas in order to protect his grandmother who we are hoping we will be able to spend Christmas with us. Not so sure about afterwards though......!

It was between Thiem and Kenin for me. Their respective slam performances were very similar, but partly because of my WTA bias biggrin, but also because of where they came from, I went with the latter.

To end the 2019 season outside the top 10, to have (at the time) had only made the last 16 of a slam once before, and to be seeded 14th, to go on to win the AO, beating Barty and Muguruza en route, is very good going, but to back that up with another slam final later in the year is extremely impressive. Thiem had already made a couple of slam finals, and would have been a pre tournament top 4 favourite in all 3 slams, whereas apart from the USO (her worst performance), Kenin wouldn't, so I guess, rightly or wrongly, there would have been a more relative approach to my thinking, rather than simply a black and white case of who had the best record - in which case a lot of the 7 names, like Swiatek (another relative candidate) wouldn't have even be considered.

It's a tough one because Thiem did have to beat Nadal at the AO, was a bit handicapped at the French (his best slam), and then had those impressive wins over Djokovic and Nadal this week, and they'll be fresh in the mind, and he has also kind of established himself in that elite group, so I can certainly see why he is the clear current frontrunner, but it was Kenin, just, for me.

It's a good reason and makes a lot of sense. I thought many might support Swiatek for her effectively out of nowhere performance in Paris, but shes not garnered support yet.

Seems public opinion suggests I should have included Rublev at least.

Too late to add but I'll count narrative votes for him or anyone else named as an other that anyone prefers to vote for.

And if youd have voted elsewhere but kept to my list, let me know and I'll keep a manual edit tally.

So Rublev is on 1 vote. I think.

Can you have an "other" option in the polls? That way we can nominate our own player if not already included (obviously not for this one)

I can.  For the gb player of season vote, I toyed with idea but as there are specific qualification rules it would make it difficult. But I though I'd do a wild card vote to mop up any non qualified candidates and that could easily have an other element to it.

Hmm, the criteria were set and they seemed very reasonable to me.

If any divergence from these effects my preferred result I will sue  wink
