Who is your World Player of the Year 2020

A prelude poll to our GB Player of the Season, with the ATP and WTA now over this season and a year where  the honours have been shared across the board, thought a fun vote may be in store!

Edit, I got my years confused initially, wrote off 2020 and called it 2021!

Ok, so I voted for Thiem. I felt his record overall in US and australia put him in a 3 way tie with Djoko and Kenin. But Thiem just edged my vote. Just.

Yes, Djoko ( unfortunately ) has a strong case, but in this year of all years of Djoko's other activities, I ( ( fortunately) was also persuaded by Thiem.

Ooh, dont know why but i imagined you voted for Naomi or Kenin, that one surprised me  (only because I see you as being more into the WTA as a tour than the mens side, not because you are a specific fan of any one player)

Nice to see some votes coming in here, it is the Queens Club and Eastbourne to our normal votes - lets call the Nov/Dec PoM vote the Ilkley Challenger, and Wimbledon is the icing on the cake in the GB Player of the Season vote.

Only 2 players not received a vote so far, both from Eastern Europe

I voted for Kenin - winner and RU up in a grand slam in the same year is some doing, plus 4th round at the USO. She won the AO only losing 2 sets (1 to Gauff and one to Garbi) and won the international tournament in Lyon.

If the points hasn't been frozen in 2020, based on the above, Kenin would be the WTA No.1 player.

Tbh - Rublev should be there as well given the 5 titles he won across the year which is more than anyone else in ATP or WTA this year. Very consistent. Maybe Schwartzman as well. I see why he isn't but it's a bit of a narrow option for the vote. (Would've taken out Med because there is no WTA equiv)

Possibly true but for Player of the year, I felt Rublev and Shwartzmann would have got an honourable mention but not actually have won it. And it felt like 7 major winners trumped them, overall.

Plus it isnt Daniil's fault that the WTA was a basket case in terms of organising their tour. They , I am sure, could have done some sort of Tour finals event, even if it wasnt called  that for legal reasons! The Tour year end play offs or something. I am sure the Chinese couldnt have argued as it  was their authorities who banned sports a few months back...

Having said that, Med got no votes so far, so probably was a stretch in this field.

Anyway, it is just a bit of fun, I reckon and I think likely that winner would come from one of the Slam winners - hard to be Player of year in the world without a Slam win, methinks!

I took a similar view, but Thiem and Djoko of course equaled that feat, in Djokos case exactly, in Thiems case he went one round better in his 3rd slam.

Haha. Fan of women's tennis in general, with particular interest in the group playing the W25's and W15's as I've seen most of them play. But also a fan of top men's tennis when it is more than just big-hitting (got bored watching Querrry v Raonic liveat Wimbledon !) Thiem has had a great year, and I enjoyed his matches this week.

I think enough votes will come in for Thiem and Djoko personally speaking. Kenin I think may get overlooked.

Thiem for me although recognising Kenin as being a really good second choice.
I just really like Thiems game overall and was a little disappointed that he didnt win the ATP finals today (Medvedev played well though and ultimately deserved to win.

An interesting and unexpected poll - thanks Jon H
