As little Hephzibah (born 2007) gets her first ITF junior ranking, from Cyprus last week, she's now giving it a whirl in Israel, J5.

She won her QR1 match, 0 & 2, and her FQR match, 2 & 1. 

And today has notched up another point, winning R1 3 & 3. 

 

In the USA, J5, Wil Jenkins won his R1 match.

In Singapore, J5, Aidan Bynre had to retire, but Scarlett Perkins (age 15) won her R1 match, in singles and doubles. 

in Turkey, J4, Pat Brady won his first match. Luca Mcmanus lost his, as did Dan Webb and Matt Southcombe.

In Guatemala, J5, Sofia Mazzucato (age 15) won her R1 match.

In Spain, J5, we had a four girls in qualis but none came through (although two won their QR1 matches at least).

There might have been a mix-up in entries, though, because we have a chunk of other players in the girls' doubles, but not in the singles although they would certainly have got in.

In Singapore, Scarlett (age 15) won a tight three setter and is now into the QFs.

In the US, J5, Wil Jenkins (age 16) also won his second match and is in the quarters now.

In Guatemala, J5, Sofia Mazzucato lost easily to the 3rd seed in R2.

And another win for Hephzibah

6-0 6-2 this time - no hanging about.....

But she gets the second seed in the quarters, who's just won her first two matches 0&0 and 2&0

But she's only about 1000 in the world, which is - very roughly - pretty much where I would put the true ranking of Hep at the moment.

So fascinated to see how she gets on. (Mind you, the second seed may be well under-ranked too, I know nothing about her)

NB I'm pretty flexible with names - I know SC gets a little hot and bothered about them, and she's often right (some are real howlers). But life's short ....

However, Hep's opponent is called Noa (OK, a girl's version of Noah? Maybe?)

BUT the girl Noa played in round one is called Daniel !!!! Now that's just plain wrong.

I have come across Noa quite often in junior tennis (Noa Krznaric has been much touted for example) and see the derivation is not from Noah .  You can also see that Daniel has become unisex recently (scroll down to the Hebrew section - I have to admit that I hadn't come across the feminine usage before).  Hephzibah is of course another name of Hebrew origin. Its probably just as well though that SC posts very infrequently in this section smile

I can live with Noa for a girl, it's rather nice. But Daniel for a girl???? Seriously???? noooooo.....

As though there aren't enough nice girls' names out there. And plenty with Hebrew origin too.

But, hey, on my list of things to be annoyed about, it's pretty low down

Otherwise...

Wil Jenkins is through to the semis in the US, J5.

Scarlett Perkins lost her singles in Singapore, 4&2, against the top seed.

But is into the SFs of the dubs, which she then lost in a MTB

In Israel, J5, Hephzibah (just turned 13) has just taken out the 2nd seed, 6-3 6-2

biggrin

She's now into the semis of the singles (and also in the semis of the doubles too)

 

All the way, Hep, all the way !

You know we're all just waiting for a 'hep, hep, hurray' moment ! biggrinno

In Spain, J5, Matt Rankin + Sam Reeve are into the dubs SF

As are Ella McDonald and Hannah Read

(None of these players were in the singles)

Haifa, J5:

SF: Hephzibah Oluwadare (GBR) age 13, def (8) May Baranes (ISR) 6-1 7-6(3)

She now gets to play the top seed, age 16, ranked JWR 591, which is a big jump up, but hey....

Best of luck in the final, Hep !


Unfortunately, Hep and partner came up just short in the doubles SF, losing to the same top seeded girl, plus her partner, in a MTB

She has a chance, the top seed lost to the girl Hep beat in her QF (Noa Major) quite easily in her last tournament. So let's do this, Hep!

The boys got knocked out in the semis, losing 4 & 2

In Turkey, J4, Brady and Southcombe also lost their dubs SF, 7-5 7-6(6)

She put up a very good effort, and it's been a really great week in Israel, but Hephzibah lost the final against the top see, in three sets, 2-6 6-3 6-2
