L16 : Kristie Ahn (USA) & Naomi Broady CR 423 (275+148) beat (ALT) Maria Camila Osorio Serrano & Renata Zarazua (COL/MEX) CR 1070 (762+308) by a walkover ( I guess they ran out of alts for the alts, both of whom had played two singles matches during the day ).

Pity she doesn't get the QF points having progressed by a walkover. 21 points for a W80.
ITF Rulebook.........
"1. If a player or team receives a walkover in the 1st round, and there is no Alternate or Lucky Loser to take the place in the draw, or if a player or team receives a walkover in a subsequent round without having yet played a match, the player or team will receive ranking points from the round preceding her/their elimination."

Is that wta points as well as itf though? Probably will be, just wondering if the wta say the same thing?
No, that is the rule for the WTA points awarded at ITF tournaments
The WTA rulebook is pretty well word for word identical, but split into three clauses
"c. Walkovers
i. If a player or team receives a walkover in the first round, and there is no Alternate or Lucky Loser to take the spot, the player or team will receive ranking points from the round preceding her/their elimination.
ii. If a player or team receives a walkover in a subsequent round with-out having yet played a match, the player or team will receive rank-ing points from the round preceding her/their elimination.
iii. If a player or team receives a walkover in any round except the first round after having played and won a match, the player or team will receive ranking points for the round reached."

And the wta wording is much clearer as a consequence! Thanks TA!
I've been watching the results and points closely. Naomi is GB #1 in doubles, but has a lead of only 79 points over Emily W-S, closely followed by Heather. That is only a few points more than a single forst round win at either of the two remaining WTA events this year. Naomi's lowest counter is 25 points though, and Emily's is 28, so very unlikely to be any changes there. Heather has a one-pointer though, and a couple of 10's, so could make up ground if she plays.
Bellis vs Kostyuk Part 2 in the semi final tomorrow.
17 year old Clara Tauson won a 3 hr+ battle with circa top 50 Shelby Rogers a little earlier, but was back on the court not much more than an hour later for her QF and she is currently struggling a bit against Ann Li. This is Tauson's 4th match in 2 days, which isn't ideal, and she took an MTO after the first set. Winner of that plays Greet Minnen in the other semi final tomorrow.
I'm loving this late night tennis in the States these past 2 weeks, brilliant coverage, and really nice fields. Always more interesting when young players do well. I wish we had similar sting of events in the UK away from the grass season.
Another W80 final for Kostyuk, but Bellis gave her a walkover in the SF (it was Marta who retired in their W80 final last week). She plays 20 year old former Wimbledon Jr finalist Ann Li in the final. Kostyuk has now cracked the top 100 for the first time with her efforts this week, and a win for Li would see her ranked 100 in tomorrow's rankings (again for the first time).
Quite an intereting story in the dubs final. A pair of local 18 year old twins just sneaked into the draw late as alts, and they have gone on to make the final. They currently lead 5-3* as well.
Although it is a bit surprising to see the Zamarripa twins make the final, they do have eome doubles form at lower levels, having won a couple of W15 titles last year and one the year before - all on clay though.
They should certainly know each others games, that's for sure, but they were a huge 15/2 at Bet365 (even longer at other sites) to beat McNally and Dolehide in a previous round - those 2 obviously have decent doubles credentials with Gauff and Brady at WTA level.
They were in a commanding position here, but have been pegged right back. I hope they still take it.
Ha, that was actually pretty enjoyable. I had it on very much in the background to Man Utd vs Arsenal, and at 5-1 I was kind of hoping the Polish girls would take a few games just to extend/delay it a bit, so that I could watch the end of the football, get a bit of scran, and then settle down to Kostyuk vs Li on the big TV after, but of course one game led to another, and then the set. The twins did so well to win it from 4-8 down in the MTB. Well done them. As Ken Thomas says, I hope they can get a WC into Charleston if a place opens up.
