Play has been suspended for some time, so could be a while before Naomi gets on court.
Zarazua is someone who I have been keeping an eye on since the Fed Cup draw was made, and she's had an excellent year. Ranked 267/270 when the draw was made on Feb 11th and since then she beat Sloane Stephens (although not too notable in 2020) en route to the SF of that WTA tournament Heather won in Mexico (losing to Fernandez), got to the F of a very strong clay W25 (beating Krejkicova who a few weeks later made the L16 of RG), and speaking of RG, she qualified, beat the RG Jr winner 6-1 6-2 in R1, and bagelled Svitolina in R2. Even last week, qualified for Macon W80 and beat a higher ranked player in R1, and is now at her CH stated in Peters post, so she has knocked off circa 120 spaces off her ranking since Feb, even in this crazy year.
What I didn't realise is that she was an absolute winning machine during lockdown, and played so many US Pro series events:
Well she won 3 points in the last game ! Not enough to stop the bagel though.
Must be the worst serving stats I've seen for Naomi - only 4 first serves in out of 15 attempts.
Naomi and Kristie play their doubles today, 3rd match on Court 1, not before 17:00 local.
Naomi looking for points to consolidate her lead (currently around 80 points and 20 places) over Emily W-S and Heather as GB's top doubles player.
Change of order, Naomi and Kristie are now second match on court 2. But play is interrupted after just over 90 minutes pay, with the predeing match at 6-4 1-3, so could still be a while once they resume.
Looks like there was no further play yesterday. No less than 27 singles matches on the schedule for today, QR1, QR2 and MD first round. No doubles though, not surprisingly.
They played some Q matches indoors, but play is supposedly over for the day, so it's effectively Thursday and there's still 5 qualifiers to determine and no main draw matches as of yet. Crazy.
Yeah, 3 singles players withdrew. I guess Thursday start, potentially having to play 2 matches in a day (if you want to do well), and that most will be playing Charleston W100 next week will have put a few off.
Naomi supposed to be on a streamed court, every other match is listed on the ITF streaming site, but not hers, although it will be very very late by the time she is on court. One of her opponents is just in the early stages of her singles match (her second full match of the day).
Oh, and Zarazua has already played 2 full singles matches today as well, although she did only drop 8 games combined.
