Week 43 - ITF (W25) Istanbul, Turkey Hard

It's Jarni for Fran in the (unseeded) QF. Most of the seeds have made it:

(1) Kanepi vs (Q) Lazaro Garcia
(3) Christian vs (5) Ruse
Fran vs Jarni
(2) Zavatska vs (7) Zvonareva.

Kanepi vs Zvonareva would feel strange for a potential W25 final. The 2nd QF is interesting between two 22 yr old Romanians who a few still have high hopes for.

They only lost by two points, so it was closer than the score suggests

Fran has generally had such an impressive run since the restart, closing in on the grand slam quals positions, and it's great to see. I think this might see her above Naiktha in the rankings (depending on counters).

It is looking like Zvonareva in the SF as she has now won 8 games in a row and leads 5-0 in the second set. A huge task ahead of her, but if she can pull it off (given Vera's scores this week), then she's surely got to be a contender for POTM again.

Awesome from Fran! What's her W/L ratio since the restart? Must be pretty decent.... like you said Ace, incredible form since the restart.

There were a few qualifying victories (although some of those were higher ranked), but I make it 17-5, so a 77% win ratio.

Really consistent, 2 SFs and a further 2 QFs, and most of these events at the top end are generally a lot stronger.

Kanepi and Zvonareva have both just won at pretty much the same time, and that will be the most likely final, and a pretty noteworthy one for this level if it happens, but a nice opportunity for Fran where the pressure should really be off.

They have her own 268 to Naikthas 267 when the points for this week are added. Naiktha also has a load coming off, to be honest I'm not sure how these points are working, some players seem to have points coming off over the next few weeks.
