Week 42 - ITF (W15) Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

Well the move to Spain seems to have had its benefits as she really does pack a punch.
Sorry I was not aware of the article in the telegraph but I have just read it now. I also have sharpened up my detective skills up in the past 45 minutes and found she is linked with JTC so she is in good company with other good players and coaches.I also found her on youtube playing some good matches against the previously mentioned raducanu but also former WTA Number 10 Daria Kasatkina in a WTA in Adalaidewhich she lost in the 3rd set!
How would she have got into this?
Is she half australlian?
Has any body seen this footage as she gives the russian more than a game.
Sorry if I seem a little slow on the uptake but I have only started watching and following our younger and future players recently.
Does anybody know who her coach is?

I was at the Sunderland W25 event earlier this year and ended up randomly sitting next to Colin Beecher of JTC watching her R1 win (I'm just a normal spectactor), and he's actively involved with her, but not sure if her main coach. He confirmed her QWC into Adelaide was just due to space in the draw, so no Aussie links for Marni, or any TA-LTA link ups.

She had some really good results over the GB summer exho season, but she withdrew after a BT QF win over Emily Arb in mid July, and this is the first time she's been back on court in an actual match since then - she confirmed in her post match interview that she had an on going injury issue:

Not sure if that will time stamp on here, but 2:12:00

Good to see all these Brits in the draw even if it is only quallies, Even better to see Banks active again. She looked like one of the shining lights in the British tour summer series after raducanu and burrage,Can somebody tell me what is the deal with her ? she seems like a great talent but also very mysterious. She seems to disappear for huge periods without playing much competition then reappears again from nowhere. I was worried she was on her way to the states for college however that still might be the case. Any information would be great as she looks a very interesting prospect.

I noticed that with Anton but assumed it was a coaching/progression thing, play a couple of tournaments and then have a coaching block to work on weaknesses.  Transitioning from Juniors to Seniors is a big leap.

I think Anton's programme planning has previously been far more due to studies. He got excellent A levels and is very committed to it.

It's been the last year since his A levels, he was doing a block of 2 or 3 weeks of tournaments and then disappearing for 2 months.

Yes, that's why I meant by 'previously'. This year has obviously been very patchy for everyone...

But Anton, from what I read, has kept up his online learning, doing machine learning and data science courses during lockdown, which is very much in keeping with his ethos that you have to keep up your studies (and indeed music, he plays piano) as otherwise you get bored and your tennis suffers.

Unfortunately (if Im not mistaken)I think these two will meet in the last round of qualifying if they both win their next match.
As for Armarni I have heard rumours of a long-term rift with the LTA but on the other hand I hear rumours that she trains at the National tennis Centre full time.
And seeing as we are on the topic of rumours has anybody heard the recent rumour of a high ranked Young British female supposedly quitting tennis recently?

No Deucebag, not heard the rumours. High ranked on WTA or British ranking?

Draws are out. Katie and Freya both face qualifiers (yet to be drawn), but unfortunately they are in the same quarter.

Im guessing this means Gabi? Theres no reference to tennis on her instagram anymore, but she may have just decided to call this year off in the current circumstance, or take a break.

nice to see Katie back. I wonder how other Katie is recovering? It feels like all our decent women players are constantly cursed with injuries...

My initial thought was Gabi (if true), but then your final point could probably have made it applicable to a whole number of alternatives cry

Interesting point about her instagram. I did notice that she had reactivated her account a while back, but didn't notice the tennis player part, but yes, I think I can remember it having the union flag followed by tennis player.

If it is Gabi, she was very open on her instagram last year about mental health, panic attacks etc. (all info on her thread under Individual Players) .  It's a tough world out there as tennis players (and the same goes for other competitive sports too). It's so much harder when you don't get the results you want and the press and/ or social media don't help either.

It's so tough with the injuries though for GB women. It's been silent on the tennis front for the likes of Naomi B, Lissey Barnett - both did really well in the summer at the Battles of Brits, Progress Women's Tour, St. Georges Pro-Series, so funds is not the problem; unless they are being cautious about travelling with COVID out there.

I was thinking the same, and had a look down the list of players to see who hadn't been playing (or training) recently. The other ones that stand out are Katie Swan (injured still ?) and Tara Moore (was entered in USA this week, but way down the list). All the others seem to be accounted for.

She plays the Serbian Djakovic, who beat Marni earlier, in the FQR.

Yeah, Katie S would have been my main alternative. Long break, flies over for the Progress Tour, injured fairly early on her first match, could imagine that being very frustrating, coupled with where she is now compared to just after Wimbledon 2018, but hopefully she is back on court soon (and Gabi for that matter...). Much more left field, and certainly not expecting it, but someone like Naiktha, didn't exactly get off to the best of starts to 2020, no signs of playing for the rest of the year, so basically a full year off (results-wise), may have found something else during this period, but she did at least play some Aussie UTR matches a couple of months ago.

I guess the 'young' would have officially ruled Tara out (sorry Tara...)
