Week 42 - ATP 250 - European Open, Antwerp, Belgium (indoor hard)

I believe that Karen K says he's never playing this event again if it doesn't have Hawkeye

There's a great collection of controversial moments (including the truly awful call I mentioned before, never seen one quite so wrong)

www.youtube.com/watch

Should be noted that Antwerp had hawkeye last year but couldn't afford it this year because of covid-19 budget problems...

Do challengers not count in head to head history? 'Cos Dan beat Hugo relatively recently - I remember it....... Quimper.

(The  Bios on the Tournament schedule show '1st meeting', with no head to  head history)

Dan has the h2h edge, he beat Humbert easily some 18 months ago in Quimper. Good chance for Dan.

Gets an early break then gives it up. 2-2

Humbert's a decent player but not really what I'd call consolidated at his ranking yet.

He seems to be where he is thanks to being solid, getting to QFs etc quite often, not from being a really top class player.

Being lefty and quite tall helps him, and he applies himself well (as the French would say) but I don't think anyone should be scared of him

switched on at 2-2 so don't know about the start.

But Dan's been the slightly better player since then.

Now to serve out the first set.... *5-4

Brilliant incisive backhand volley by Dan on the third point that even got a big 'bravo' from Ugo

And, at 30-30, Dan's serve looked clearly wide, but really wide, and it wasn't called. Ugo utterly disgusted.

But Dan won two excellent points where he moved Ugo to his left, on his forehand, and then hit his backhand up the line and came in, forcing Ugo to go for really difficult passings where he had no chance really.

But 6-4

With Ugo still complaining bitterly about the serve

No hawk-eye here. Dan has been 'lucky' with calls yesterday and today so far.

Yes. He didn't do the 'gentlemanly' thing and admit it was out either. Even though he was the best placed and looked as though he knew full well it was out.

Same as yesterday's - it was right by his feet, he knew full well it was inches in.

But there is a certain argument that you just play to the umpire because things go around and come around.

Real tight cat-and-mouse game, that one

But Evans takes it and breaks back

Getting very nervous watching live scores.

Evo had 3 MPs at *6-3 in the TB but we are back to 6-6*
