How on earth do they work out the draw, the No.2 seed plays the No.9, the No.1 gets the No.16 (fair enough) and the No.7 gets the No.13. I would've thought it would be drawn so that the No.1 gets the No.16, the No.2 gets the No.15 and so forth.

It's random as to which of the 9th to 16th seeds is in the same section as the 1st to 8th.
That's normal for pro tennis qualifying. They just divide however many seeds ( twice the number of qualifiers ) into a top half and bottom half, place the top seeds, and then it's random.
eg. in the French Open women's qualifying, with 12 qualifiers, the q1 seed was with q13 and the q12 with q19.
The 18 y/o QWC Janicijevic is currently 6-3 2-0* up on the #2 Q seed, so that's who it's (currently) looking like Jodie will play tomorrow. She was actually the very narrow pre match favourite here, so not necessarily an 'easier' match if it happens.
Edit - she ran away with that second set winning 6-3 6-0, so that is who Jodie will play.

Selena Janicijevic is JR50, and was as high as JR18 back in January, Played RG both juniors and qualifying draw (WC), losing in first round of both. Could be much tougher than the rankings suggest.
Edit: - RG corrected as CD's post below

But that's a pretty poor result from three seeded players.
Jodie's opponent is a junior (hence the wildcard), born 2002, a really tall girl, of Serbian family, I believe, who has a CH in juniors of 18 but is about 50 at the moment. At Roland Garros, she lost in QR1 in the adults, and R1 in the juniors. A lot is expected of her (she had a wildcard to the main draw of RG in 2019 when she was only 16) but she certainly hasn't blown away the adult tournaments yet.
Add: just crossed with the addict, saying pretty much the same Although I think it was only RG qualis this year, not the main draw.

Yeah, Jacquemot, Parry, and Burel were given the 3 19 and under MDWCs. A couple of decent wins recently, including Hibi, and as you can see, she was the narrow 1.79 pre match favourite to beat the early 200s ranked Gerlach today, but Gerlach hadn't been in great form, with just one win in over a year.
Jodie has the 4th seed Kung. It's not really relevant, but Leonie does seem to have a poor record against Brits for some reason. Lissy (and Emma R) beat her about a year ago, and Katy D beat her the other week, but clearly she could have had a far better draw.
I think now I would have preferred them to have played each other to guarantee one going through as I would be pleasantly surprised if they both won.
