I think it's dreadful that she retired in qualies, accepted a lucky loser spot and then retired again after only one game thereby depriving someone else of the opportunity to compete. It's about time the ITF changed the rules to prevent this happening. Once someone retires from a match they shouldn't be allowed to take any further part in that competition. At least that's my opinion!

I am in total agreement. I think there would've likely been an earlier comment made about getting in as LL after retiring if she hasn't been GB.

I tend to agree.
Although the narrative you give does leave out the fact she played one match in between the two retirements, which she did win.
i.e. it implies she accepted the LL spot and then retired again in the next match. Which is not so.
And, anyway, I have no complaints at all with Emilie for accepting it - she was eligible, she played and won her next match.
But - yes - overall, for the ITF rule committee, if you retire in the FQR, I don't think you should be eligible for a LL spot.
I agree in general that if you retire from an event, that should be it for you, even if just a cold / bad tummy etc, that you can easily recover from, but at the moment you are allowed back in, and at least she did get a win yesterday, a good one at that, so must have been feeling OK to compeye, so it doesn't look as bad as coming back and immediately retiring which would have been 100% a waste of a space in the draw.
I hope they do change the rules, but I don't really think Emilie has done anything wrong in this situation because of the rules and that win.
I had missed the fact that this was a second round match and she played and won yesterday, which I agree sort of mitigates the situation in this instance. Also it's a fair point that whilst the rules allow it I might be unfair criticising Emilie for doing what's allowed (although there were no shortage of critics when Katie B used the rules to her advantage at the FO a couple of years ago) However I stick to my point that the rules should be changed to prevent someone retiring and coming back in the same event. This would still allow someone who retired in singles FQ with just a minor ailment to play doubles if they recovered quickly.
