General cricket thread

Really sad news. There are quite a few younger people , and I count 52 as younger, dying from heart issues recently, that northern Irish minister aged 39 , Jamal Edwards as well I believe was heart.

Is this possibly Covid related to the weakening of the heart ?

More likely Covid vaccine related.  I'll post some links up.

No, almost certainly not covid vaccine related ( probably not covid related at all though I don't know Shane's recent history ).

That first article is hugely misleading ( no doubt deliberately so ) as I and others have said in more depth in the coronavirus - tennis related thread. I didn't bother with the other links.

RIP Shane Warne
RIP Rod Marsh

Sad,remember both especially Rod Marsh's  bet and Gatting.

Gatting is still trying to work out what happened with 'the ball of the century'. His face as he walked back to the pavilion was a picture.

RIP Shane
RIP Rod

County champ has already started. It's 9 degrees and blowing a gale.
No wonder our test team cannot do anything when they have to play domestic cricket in terrible conditions at the wrong time of the season.

What a win from England today. Maybe the England football team could learn from the cricket team's new mentality of being ambitious and not too cautious.

Bairstow - just Wow.

I've been utterly glued to this England run chase. Just wow.

The Yorkshiremen have done it again and will take the limelight, but the whole team deserve enormous credit.

Bit stodgy today. I know they had loads of time but, off the back of the quickest century opening partnership in England test history, the innings still ended at less than 5 an over

What can be achieved with a change of attitude. Credit McCullum, Stokes and yes the whole team in buying in over these last 4 tests.

I was a wee bit concerned when Stokes was coming out with stuff during the New Zealand series about wanting to be even more positive, when they'ed already been whacking it to all parts, and that they were in the entertainment business, and I was thinking Harlem Globetrotters over always trying to do what's best at any time for the result.

But they keep winning ( and they weren't before! ), at times from them looking well behind the eightball at different times in matches.

Anyway, back to that boring white ball stuff for a month or so.

From Twitter.

Jonny Bairstow's last five innings: 136 (92), 162 (157), 71* (44), 106 (140), 114* (145)

589 runs from 578 balls at an average of 196

Not a bad run of form.

Its amazing the turnaround particularly from Bairstow and Joe Root under Stokes and McCallum. Exciting !

We are good at ODI cricket, so play test cricket in that style.

Weather is ruining the T20 world Cup in Australia, but to be fair Pakistan have been involved in a couple of epics.

If England have another rain off they are out.

Meanwhile there is still an impasse between the ECB and Counties over the proposals to reduce the county championship. The counties won't vote for a reduction in any form other than the hundred and the ECB won't budge on the hundred.

I utterly loathe 20/20 and The Hundred. I grew up watching the magnificent West Indies fast bowlers and seeing cricket being reduced to feeding dollies to the batsmen for the sake of a few ADD kids I wonder who'd want to be a bowler now.
