Good Deed Backfires

On Twitter, Kate McCann (Sky News) is trying to cheer people up by asking them to tweet about a good deed they have done and the response they got to that deed.

It reminded me of something that happened to me here a few months back.

I was in the supermarket checkout queue and there was an elderly lady in front of me trying to pay for her goods.  She hadn't bought much and was trying to find enough money to pay for them. The whole bill was only about 15 euros, but despite opening her purse an tipping all remaining 1 and 2 cent coins on to the checkout desk, she still fell about 30 cents short.

After some deliberation, she selected a tin of sardines (price about 50 cents) and put them to one side, asking the checkout girl to remove it from her bill.  So I thought, come on Bob, be kind here. So as she was packing her things in her bag, I asked the checkout girl to swipe the sardine tin and to add it to my bill.  Then I handed the tin to the lady, thinking that was my good deed for the day and feeling good about myself.

She, on the other hand, looked mortified.  "I've got money" she said indignantly, "but I just didn't want to break into one of these". She proceeded to pull a large wad of 50 euro notes from her pocket and waved them under my nose.  She was highly embarrassed and so was I.  I wanted the ground to swallow me up there are then.  She walked off without a backwards glance.

You shouldn't have been embarrassed !!!!

Him Up There is watching and has chalked up lots of brownie points for you.

And her dodgy fifties will come round and bite her on the b*m for being so ungrateful and ungracious !

Good on you....

I saw a blind man in Sainsburys with a personal shopper helping him. I coincided with him again outside where I assisted him over the z ebra crossing and then past a student nightclub where he suddenly pulled away from me and I said you dont live here this is a students nightclub. He said but this is where I live and pointed his stick up to where there were some flats above. Dohhhh! How many blind people must get helped across roads they dont want to cross
