The new person would have to be bullet-proof.

Imagine if they'd sent a dodgy e-mail in 2005 disbelief

I still miss Andy Roddick (this he does coms for US channel). And Lleyton Hewitt was great too. Barty would be a decent choice.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick but do you really think that Becker, with a string of serious financial crimes, including very recent ones, is someone who is being persecuted for some ancient politically incorrect misdemeanour?

No. But whoever comes next will be subject to extreme media scrutiny. The amounts involved are tiny - good job Ernest Saunders isn't able to go for the job (although he seems to be the only person to recover from Alzheimer's) or Bernie Madoff.

I wouldn't call the amounts 'tiny'.

So anyone who steals a million pounds should be let off coz it doesn't matter coz it's 'tiny'?

I think that would be a great defence for a HUGE number of thieves.....

The fact that some people have stolen vast amounts more hardly is an answer

Boris Becker is due to be sentenced at the end of this week, Friday 29th April.

"Boris Becker was found guilty by a jury at Southwark Crown Court of four charges; he was acquitted of a further 20 counts relating to his 2017 bankruptcy; the six-time Grand Slam champion will return for sentencing on April 29."

A sad day today for tennis as one of the best ever gets sentenced for his bankruptcy fraud. I know many on here don't, but I do feel sorry for the man (yes, he has caused his own downfall) and hope he at least faces it with dignity - pretty certain a jail sentence will come, how long we will find out later.

Mike Dickson reporting that he has been given a 2 1/2 year sentence, of which he is likely to serve half.

yep, 2 1/2 years. Serving half is standard and then you come out on licence for the residual of the sentence.

Personally, I think it is heavy - I am not in favour of prison sentences for non violent crimes or crimes like drugs offences, or where the person is clearly no danger but I know most others here will be against me on that so wont argue it.

Becker is effectively ruined. He wont be able to travel to the USA for example again, or Australia. It is hard to see sponsors or media ever taking him on again; given that he is no threat, he may be able to coach people ( I dont think he should be excluded from that , others may disagree);

It is a massive fall from grace -  I was a massive fan of Boris - I reckon when we look at the GOAT style analysis Jeff Sackmann is doing, we would see Boris up in the top 40 or 50 all time tennis players. I know he had faults as a commentator but I actually quite liked him.

Again, I know others will disagree with me completely and I wont argue with it, we all have opinions.

A sad day for him and his family and for tennis, IMO

I won't argue with you Jon ( although I could ) but interested to know what sort of punishment for Becker you think would be appropriate.

I think being made to work in some sort of restitutional way, a care home or with youngsters , helping people in some way. We can do better than jailing people. Not community service like digging up graveyards, that doesnt work, but actually helping and working with people .
better than Prison IMO

I totally agree with you Jon, he needs to realise how lucky he has been and improve his mental health.
