So heres the thing. I had a think and realised I was going to have a player of season vote with around 14 or 15 players supplemented by a wildcard. And the wildcard vote itself would include around 15 or so players.
During the lockdown I took great pleasure in the polls we ran for best of this or favourite of that and it seemed this would be a massive missed opportunity to not end the year with something like that which people can follow after the real tennis has ended.
Via the various qualification routes , Ive calculated we will have c 31 players in the player of season process. Too many no doubt but enough to make it some fun.
So my plan is to set up a poll of 32 players and have several rounds of votes to find our British player of the season.
It will still run between dates wc 14th.
After this months player of the month, I will know the final field, it will still need one player added to make the 32 I want to include.
Im also conscious the qualifications process isnt foolproof and some people may say what about so and so.
So here is the chance to nominate any individual of your choice. Tonight I will list the currently qualified players. Take a look and if you see anyone missing you feel is truly deserving then please send me a personal message with their name. I dont want this spot to become the debating place so please use PM. Ill keep a tally of any names mentioned and how many times and in 2 weeks time post here who gets that final spot based on those PMs.
Hope that makes sense, list tonight and then please PM me with any names. The list i put up wont please everyone but theyve all qualified one way or another .
Just reconfirmimg this timeline as the WC 14th December entries are predictably thin. So wc 7th December will be last counting week and 13th to 20th will be voting season.
Something special to look forward to!
Based on the updated process above, here is a list of the players who would currently qualify for the Player of the Season poll and the criteria.
The players are in red (the black names are where the player qualified through alternative routes, ie more than once) and we have 30 in total.
As mentioned above, if you feel there is anyone you feel is missing that is a genuine Player of the Season contender, please PM me directly.
The 30 below will be added to with Nov/Dec PoM and also one or two ranking related places may change (eg womens doubles) or possibly tournie wins list or PoM nominations list could be added to.
I am hoping we end up with 32 players in total, so should work out about right.

Your baby so whatever you want. Ive already decided who has my vote and if they don't win I'm flouncing out.
Hopefully theyre on the list?
Even then trouble is then relying on this one member one vote democracy business.
Democracy, Indy, aint no democracy, hell no
I spit in the face of democracy for things as important as this, way over rated letting plebs vote. Anyway yes they are on the list.
I am sure you will remember that when we all apply to participate in this forum we commit that we are not personally of plebite tendencies nor do we live with or have ever met any plebs in our lives.

remember if you see anyone missing that you believe is worthy of a Player of Season nomination, ping me a PM. If I get more than one PM about the same player, I will consider putting them into the field...but I have 30 currently so will take a call when I see final numbers. Nonetheless, ping me the names if there are any, although I am pretty confident that between the 30 above and those in Nov/Dec PoM field, we pretty much have every one that could be a contender covered!
No names sent so far, and I am quite happy if it stays that way!!

Just teasing out the process for info. Working assumption is 32 qualifiers in the player of season vote (if it is 31 or 33, 34 it makes no real difference, just tweaks)
First round - Wed 16th - 32 players in 8 groups of 4 - top 2 qualify (incl ties but any player getting no votes won't be able to progress - eg if someone gets all the votes in the group, the others are out)
QF - Thursday 17th - 16 players in 4 groups of 4 (are thereabouts, subject to ties etc) - top 2 qualify
SF - Friday 18th - 8 players in 2 groups of 4 (again, subject to ties in previous round) - top 2 qualify
FINAL - Sat 19th Dec to Sun 20th Dec (evening) - 1 group of 4 players,

Hi Jon
are you planning on random draws for the first round or placing by category/type?
