Fran takes the first set 7-5

And the second 6-4

That's a good win against the player that put out the top seed, Monica Niculescu in the previous round. It's worth $34k in prize money, and 40 points

She will play Sabine Lisicki in the last 16

Sabine's first tournament since a first round loss in the W125 at Karlsruhe at the end of July 2019. Live rankings show her moving up to WR679 after today's win

 That's a great player for Fran to play. Sabine former Wimbledon runner up in both singles and doubles.

 She of course beat Sam in round one here, so be interesting to compare Fran with Sam?

Just to note that Sofia and Ekaterine, who beat Beth and Eden, have gone on to knock out Paar and Wachaczyk seeded 8, who beat Em and Vivian.

Sofia and Ekaterine will play Harriet and Cornelia, if they win today.

No, it was scoreboard lag. Lisicki held to love inthe opening game. But she breaks in the second game to 15, helped by 2 DF from Fran.
(WTA match stats on my screen - haven't time to watch the stream this morning)

Breaks continue to be about as common as holds with 2 each in this set and 7 each overall.
