Sam loses 63 64

Basically went much like you'd expect a Sam match on clay to go. Fairly solid but her strengths were fairly neutralised by the surface and conditions, and the movement not quite there.

 Well it was to Sabine Lisicki fomer Wimbledon runner up. Don't forget at her peak Sabine had wins at Wimbledon over  Kuznetsova, Wozniacki,Li Na, Bartoli,Stephens, Sharapova, Schiavone, Stosur, Serena, Radwanska, Ka. Pliskova, and Ana Ivanovic . A who's who of   recent womens tennis.

Doubles draw is out. Sam is in the top half, all the other pairs are in the bottom quarter, with an intriguing pair of matches involving Emily, her often partner Sofia, Beth and Eden, with the winners to meet in the second round

I see that Bouchard lost 6-0 7-6  to Mexico's Renata Zarazua. I daresay we'll be hearing of  Zarazua  when GB plays away Fed Cup tie in Mexico.

Absolutely huge win for Fran 62 16 62

Saved two break points at *4-2 after doing so well to break in the previous game, then closed out the return game well. Hugely impressed.

L32: Francesca Jones WR 321 (CH 297 in June 2019) vs Andrea Lazaro Garcia (ESP) WR 318 (CH 317 in August 2020)

25 yo Lazaro Garcia beat the top seed Monica Niculescu 6-4 6-4 in the L64.

30 points (net 29) so far should have Fran near her CH 297. She would earn a further 10 points with a L32 win which might move her above Jodie B to GB #7.

That whole top section Fran is in is really open with all the seeds (including sadly Sam) being knocked out.

 Didn't Sramkova play in the Fed Cup against Heather in the tie against  Slovakia?
