Well done Jo.

Good first set which Heather really should have won and sadly she faded away after that.

Jo is certainly playing well enough to go further so for longer term tournament prospects, probably the best outcome although it would have been good to see Heather get her first main draw win at the USO.

Just 3 womens seeds fallen in round one, that surprises me in the circumstances of the season.

 Are you sure it's not the other way round and it is Muchova who is expected to reach the 4th round? Assuming of course Cirstea and Muchova's 2nd round opponent don't win. Muchova is also another top player from the Czech Republic.

 I see that they give the clear highest % to Sabalenka for the QF. I'm not so sure that she will even beat Azarenka in R2.

Well 2 top 32 seeds have gone out early today. Vondrousova only won 3 games against Sasnovich. Mladenovic lost to Gracheva having lead 6-1 5-1 ouch ! Ex Wimbledon champions Kerber and Kvitova into the 3rd round  and  seeds Kontaveit and Martic.

Jo on the usual Brits court 5 tomorrow, most of the brits have played there this week, jo beat heather on this court also.

 Mladenovic complained bitterly after about the USTA treatment of her and the Paire 11.

Caroline Garcia has just dumped out the top seed Karolina Pliskova 6-1 7-6(2)

So having started out with just 2 of the top 7 ranked in attendance, only Sofia Kenin WR 4 remains.

Serena Williams WR 8 and Naomi Osaka WR 9 round out the top 10 competitors.
