That seemed very short and not sweet

Question.

Anyone know why Dan apparently lost such fitness and clearly form between BotB1 and BotB2? Injury issue? ( I kind of hope )

Without beating around Bush at botb1 he looked lean, mean and keen. Botb2 he looked tubbier and , well out of shape again. Here he, to be fair, looked leaner again but clearly not sharp or on his game.

Other than apparently a French / Mannarino issue which left Zverev hanging plus delaying the following Tsitsipas vs Coric match, details seem yet to emerge.

First set to Mannarino on a TB.

As I didn't have a live stream, what happened? Did he hit the wall physically or did Davidovich just up his game ? After what was a close match for just over 2 sets, Cam lost 11 of the last 12 games.

Dehydration, according to Stu Fraser (extract from his article headed "Cameron Norrie feels the heat as dehydration undoes all his hard work"):

While it was a hot day in New York, the temperature was not particularly excessive at 30C. After levelling the match at one set all, Norrie, 25, was a break up at 2-1 in the third set, but then lost 11 of the last 12 games.

"I usually love the heat," Norrie said. "I think it was the moment, with a big match and the first two sets being real physical. It was a strange one. I remember going to the bathroom after the second set and I was drinking as much as I could.  I was just really dehydrated and my vision got a little bit blurry at the start of the third set. I was not really seeing the ball that clearly. Towards the end I managed to drink a little bit more, but it was too late. I felt good this morning, but there are definitely a lot of lessons to be learnt from it. Having not played best of five sets back to back for a while, I need to get more used to that."

Perhaps Norrie's efforts in the week caught up with him, having contested a five-set first-round match lasting almost four hours against Diego Schwartzman, the No 9 seed from Argentina. He now departs New York with the biggest cheque of his career, for £122,000, and is set to enter the world's top 70 before the European clay-court swing leading into the French Open.

So, health officials tried to stop mannarino playing as they said he should stay in quarantine post Paire positive test. Big debate led to delay and eventually they got played.

CORIC wins epic with Tsitsipas, 7-6 in 5th.

Bravo to Canada - three men into the last 16 - one only aged 20, another only 21.....

And doesn't even include Raonic.

Brilliant effort from them....

Last 16:

3 Canada
2 Spain
2 Australia
2 Russia
1 Belgium
1 Serbia
1 American
1 German
1 Croatia
1 Italy
1 Austria

And, overall, with some of the 'big names' not there, the youngsters have really stepped up:

Only 2 players over 30 years old (one of which only just).
10 players under 25, of which 4 are 21 or younger.
Average age: 24.75

Also, all the players are 6 foot tall or over, except one (at 5'11)
But none over 6'6
Very homogeneous
