Bryans

The Bryan's announced their retirement from tennis last night, slightly overshadowed by other events.

Congrats to them on a fabulous career and being one of the best pairs of all time. Wishing them well.

What a wonderful career they have had and tennis will miss them. I had the pleasure of seeing them win in Valencia a few years back and also manged to get into see them on the practice courts. Got a picture taken with my young neighbour who was there with me and they were charming and polite.

I have been looking for the photo. My neighbour was about 13 at the time. Wierd to think he is 22 now and engaged.  Might embarrass him by sending his fiance a copy of the photo - if I can find it.

Edit

Found it.  Sorry Alfie. Got to be posted. I have long since forgiven him the Man Utd top.

ha, great photo Bob!

The Bryans are probably the main marketable element of the ATP Doubles world , partic in the US events, and often managed show court billing when all other doubles pairs would be on outside courts.

It will be interesting to see what players and names fill the void...not obvious to me which players the ATP could market and push in the USA (other than Sock) or in Europe/Australia etc

Just been looking back at results.  The year was 2011.

Only time I saw them live was in 2010 at the O2, they lost a semi to Zimonjic and Nestor as a prelude to an amazing Rafa v Andy semifinal.

2011 is almost ancient history, Bob!

We went the previous year too and were hoping to see Andy, but he got knocked out in the QF before we got there.  Did get to see him in the doubles though as that was the year he won it with Jamie.  That was a real treat.

I was lucky enough to be at the 2005 Wimbledon Final between them and Huss/Moodie back in the day when a No.1 court ticket on 2nd Saturday could see you pretty lucky if it rained on Friday. Also on No.1 for the Nadal/Djokovic Semi in 2007 and Laura Robsons Junior win.
