If you look at the top 32 players currently entered in the US Open then the withdrawals will not come from there. Out of the 32 players only Martic, Muguruza and Kerber have not played this week. Down the players to Heather only Hercog has not played. The likes of Bouzkova and Gauff will not be seeded. Bouzkova will need 2 players ranked above her to drop out.(Hercog is one) The drop outs will come from the lower ranked players unless a seeded player or one of their team tests for covid 19.
Very interesting. They reckon as low as 170 might get in. I think Muguruza might be the latest to pull out as she has an injury. Agree with your comment about Katie. At the presnt rate Heather will be seeded and Harriet will get in.
Unreliable information about Muguruza. Tweeted on Tuesday that she is definitely in .
Good news about Muguruza, I thought she might have pulled out and just waited for the clay to start. I think the below is correct, tennisteen have Kalinina as the first alt, but they have scratched out Hercog, but have not yet Ostapenko, whereas the latter seems to have officially withdrawn, but not the former, so as far as I'm aware, Kalinina will still officially be the first alt.
Spiceboy over on TennisForum has just this moment said Dart has withdrawn from the US Open to concentrate on Prague, so the 'road' isn't as exciting or as important from a British perspective, although it will still be interesting from a general perspective to see which 140+ odd player qualifies for a slam main draw by right.
There still seems to be some doubts over Giorgi, Zidansek and Begu's participation.
Pliskova, Karolina (CZE) Kenin, Sofia (USA) Williams, Serena (USA) Osaka, Naomi (JPN) Sabalenka, Aryna (BLR) Kvitova, Petra (CZE) Keys, Madison (USA) Martic, Petra (CRO)
Konta, Johanna (GBR) Muguruza, Garbiñe (ESP) Rybakina, Elena (KAZ) Vondrousova, Marketa (CZE) Riske, Alison (USA) Kontaveit, Anett (EST) Sakkari, Maria (GRE) Mertens, Elise (BEL)
Edit - this will be the last list I post to save cluttering up the thread with such a long post. I'll probably update the original post if any more key developments nearer Thursday, although I think it might end up with 1.5 line spacing which often happens.

Some British interest pairings in the doubles in Prague.
Harriet in with Lister, Sam with Raina, Eden and Beth, and Emily in with Heisen (not Sofia, who is playing with her compatriot Gorgodze).
They are making up for the 32 draw in NYC so the prize money here is really excellent for the doubles: $17,000 for first round losers ($11,000 for first round losers in singles).

147 - Mandy Minella won't be playing either as she is also pregnant.
Unless heavily. Players have been known to play grand slams while pregnant
According to tennis.net, she is due at the end of December, so she is five months pregnant. She played Wimbledon in 2017 whilst four and a half months pregnant.
Well that's one way of ensuring a British winner in round 1. The top 8 seed who Jo/Heather could potentially meet in the last 16 is Sabalenka who is the 5th seed. (Hope that is correct)
