Week 33 - Challenger 125 ($137,560) - Prague Open, Prague, Czech Republic (Clay)

Been a long time since I got to start a thread like this.

L48: Jay Clarke WR 167 vs Dmitry Popko (KAZ) WR 176 (CH 167 Feb 20)

Jay missed out by 1 spot on a seeding with 16th seed being Stephen Diaz WR 165.  He may have got that seeded spot but for Stan Wawrinka being given a WC.  Clearly he is Nº1 seed,

If Jay gets through that first match he will play 6th seed Sumit Nagal (IND) WR 127.

Jay not on the OOP for tomorrow.

Jay gone from *3-1 up to *3-5 down. 11 breaks of serve in 20 games so far.

Edit

Set gone 6-3

Into a decider.  No MTB in the Challengers.

Final set begins with 3 more breaks.

Jay leads *2-1 but has been broken in 8 of 12 service games. Now would be a good time for a hold Jay.

Edit

Jay does just that and then breaks again.  Now *4-1 up.

But this match has had more twists than the Corkscrew ride at Alton Towers so it is not over yet.

I guess this is where the points calculations start getting complicated.  I had a look at the ATP site to see how many points he might have dropping off this week and then remembered that the whole system is very convoluted now and gave up.

According to OER, Jay's next counter by date is 25th October, so he adds the full 5 points, and live ranking 165

Remember nothing drops off for the remainder of this year purely by date.

As Bob indicated it's no longer so simple. Only comes off if a player produces a better points score for the same tournament ( 2020 against 2019 ) or because it is no longer in the best 18 (men) or best 16 (women).
