Good thing about Prime is it stores each match individually, so if there is a clash, or you are busy when one is on, you can just go in later and watch it from the start.
What possible significance could there be? Strange question
I got called out last year for referring to one player by their first name and another by their last name too......
So seemingly not strange question......
But, yeah, I'm with you - OF COURSE it has no significance, it's just because certain people have more catchy last names, or there's a lot with the same first name, or whatever.
Indeed, to me, I find 'Jo' a bit tricky because she's Yo-hanna and therefore I can't write Jo without thinking it's Yo, I hear Yo in my head as I write, which seems silly. So I always call her her JoKo which is YoKo which seems fine.
Firstly who did you get caught out with last year? No doubt somebody was a fan of the player who was referred to by their surname. Of course headlines in the papers such as todays' Daily Mail telling of her trip to the USA refer to her by her surname but that is a different matter.
Secondly I don't know if you've noticed that when Johanna Konta is introducing herself she always says Johanna and never Jo. You can find that going back as far as interview in 2010. She may answer to Jo but she prefers Johanna. As for pronunciation of course she pronounces it the Hungarian way as she and her parents have done all their life. She wasn't christened the English Joanna.
If there were any significance, what would be the benefit of pointing it out?
If someone deliberately posted one player's name more formally to make a point, doesn't attracting everyone's attention to the fact just reinforce the point?
... or was that the point?
I don't know any of these people, so I tend to go for mr/ ms Surname, but it seems everyone else on this forum has their own way of addressing each player - I sometimes find this impenetrable (Ola?), and can't keep up with Sarah/ Beth/ Sarah Beth (don't get me started on Emily Amelia Millie Emily A, Emily Arb etc., etc., etc.), but understand that each poster has their own inimitable style of addressing each player however they see fit. What is the advantage of quibbling?

Never easy to distinguish between all the Emily's ! But it usually is easy to follow from the entry lists and order of play earlier in the thread. I understand that it can be confusing though when we refer to the players by the names they like to be known by e.g Beth, Lissey, Liv, Millie !!
For my part, I tend (not always) to go with Henry P. or Emily A or somesuch. Not always because on the mens side some have nicknames that I sometimes use such as Evo or Dino, or Fed or Djoko etc...
I must admit I get terribly confused across the ladies side and many of the names merge and fuse into one - too many middle class parents using trendy middle class names!
Is there any significance in refering to Heather by her christian name and Jo by her surname? In other people's posts on this tournament Tara and Em are refered to by their christian names.
Busted. You've sussed me ROSAMUND, all part of a hidden agenda
Na, no significance from me, just a lack of consistency, and done without a seconds thought. I'll call them Katie B and Katie S one minute, and then Boulter and Swan the next.
I mean (classic Konta), even on that first page, Tara and Emina (who you reference) have one doubles opponent referenced by her Christian name, and the other by her surname - as long as the majority know who you are referring to, I personally don't really think it matters too much, but apologies if it bothers others.
Am I right in saying Jo (or Johanna or Konta), comes out of this pretty well as far as ranking points go?
She can earn points easily from events like this as she has a few 1 pointers she can replace, but she gets to keep the main bulk of her points (French,Wimbledon, US Open) for another 9 months?

Yes. Although Bouzkova is on the rise, I expect it will be a tough tough match for Jo.

Agree as Bouzhova beat Jo on their previous meeting even if Jo had knee problems.Unfortunately I think most of Jo's points are based on performances over 12months old. Might catch up with her ar some stage,

Yes, Jo has 3 one pointers before her next two lowest, two 55s.
Re Slams ( SF, QF, QF from the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open respectively for 1640 of her 2803 points ) it is particularly good for her maintaining a strong ranking position that she gets to keep at least these points until the 2021 renewals. Everyone of course gets to keep such points ( so there is a limit to how far anyone will fall down this year and beyond ) but Jo must be particularly grateful given she has such a Slam haul.
Theoretically, a slight counter is that it will be very tough indeed for her to gain any ranking points from the upcoming US or French Opens since she will have to go some to have this year counting in the 'better of' Slam counts.
On balance though, yes, especially with questionable fitness and form, it must be very good for her to have such Slam ranking points protection until the 2021 French Open. And she made a R1 exit at this year's Aus Open so can gain there if the 2021 Aus Open takes place in January.
Hopefully her fitness and form will be in a better place when the time does come to defend these points.
Rain delay in Lexington, and the forecast doesn't look great all week. Constant rain delays at WTA Prague today as well - at least we've still got all the SGH action under a roof.
