Weeks 27-32 - UK Pro Series - St George's Hill, Weybridge - (Hard)

Eliz won a long second set on a TB, so that's Alice through I think. This MTB should determine whether Nadia faces Freya or Erin in the 5-8 playoffs, big difference.

Nadia 7-5 6-7(3) 11-9. So I think the final placings are:

1) Eliz W4, PTS 12

2) Alice W3, PTS 9

--------------------------

3) Nadia W4, PTS 9

4) Emily Ap W2, PTS 9

Alice beat both Nadia and Emily, Nadia beat Emily, so sorted by H2H. Poor Nadia, won 4 of her 5 matches, but not enough - at least she has avoided Freya though (I think) - she has lost both matches to Freya here, winning only 7 games combined, so Erin should be a better match up for her, couldn't be much worse. Not many would have thought we'd have Freya vs Emily Ap on Saturday in the 5-8 playoffs in a match to avoid finishing either 7th or 8th.

I'm still hoping there's some sort of 'games won' loophole coming into play from out of nowhere, and H2H was never official in a 3 way tie, although likely clutching at straws. Mind, I see the organisers Twitter feed has Emily Ap beating Alice earlier, so they probably don't even know what's going on, ha.

It is Emily Arb vs Nadia in the semi final tomorrow!!! So games won must top H2H after all. Wow, wasn't expecting that, but I'm pleased for her.

I've double checked their results and they all did end on 9 points, but if matches won (I meant that above instead of 'games won' - I went all John Inverdale there for a moment, twice) was the final differentiator in a 3 way tie, then I for one won't have any issues - I just wish I knew earlier as I would have been chuffed with Nadia taking that MTB 11-9 and sealing her SF place, instead of simply taking 3rd place which I assumed.

Saturdays OOP:

10am
B1 vs A2 - Eliz vs Sonay
NB 11.15am
A1 vs B2 - Emily Arb vs Nadia
NB 12.30pm
A5 vs B6 - Emily M vs Danielle
NB 2pm
A3 vs B4 - Freya vs Emily Ap
NB 3.30pm
B3 vs A4 - Alice vs Erin
NB 5pm
B5 vs A6 - Millie vs Camille

Beat me to it by 16 second TA smile

It happens ! Usually the other way round because I've gone back to check something.
Anyway, your list is more meaningful than mine as you have the placings.

It may not have made any difference whatsoever because Sonay has been playing well all week, and beat Freya the other day, but it was certainly contrasting Friday's between someone who had already qualified in how they approached their final group match against Nadia. Eden's 19 minute retirement last Friday has already been well documented on here, but Eliz, who had already been assured of top spot, was scrapping away until 7.15pm last night in a 2 hr 35 m (nothing) battle, and then first on this morning. She was also surprisingly much more vocal last night as well.

Eliz has just held, but Sonay a set and a break up, 6-3 *4-3.

Eliz has just come through a very long game, saving 2 MPs to get it back on serve, showing loads of fight, so maybe still a bit to go here. 5-5.

Sonay 6-3 7-5.

Emily Arb vs Nadia up next in the other SF. You'd probably think we'd now get 2 rematches from yesterday tomorrow (Emily vs Sonay, Eliz vs Nadia), but Nadia did beat Emily last week, so you never know.

Emily Arb 6-2 6-3 Nadia, so those aforementioned rematches will happen.

Looks a pretty routine scoreline, but it did last a couple of mins short of 2 hours. 8 deuce games, including 2 very long ones, but Emily was never broken, and saved all 5 of the BPs she faced.

Nadia can have a few rushes of blood to the head, well involved in long rallies, then a wayward shot under seemingly not a massive amount of pressure. I have enjoyed watching her though, and a definite 'A' in that SB thread for me. She may have already done enough in terms of points for the Classic after her past 3 weeks here, but if not, I hope she's in WC contention, she'd be a worthy recipient, a lot of really good wins for her.

Anyone have any idea of next week's entry (mainly looking at telstar smile) and if Nadia has put her name down, in which would be 4, and potentially 5 weeks in a row here?

Apparently names like Broady, Lissey Barnett, SBG featuring on the current entry list for next week . I wonder if they'll decide to pull out considering the amount of matches they've played already, including BoftB. Plus Naomi and SBG have already qualified for the Classic Week. Lissey hasn't, I don't think.
Nadia is on the alternate list so might be lucky to get a WC.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Naomi and Beth take a week off. Beth has played some 26 or so matches in the last four weeks, so Naomi must be about the same. Time indeed for a week off.

Thanks cya. Interesting. Quite nice to see some of the more established names, but to be honest, I've enjoyed this week as much as any of them, and group B was really exciting with 4 players in real contention for much of the week. Sonay has been great value in the other group.

I thought Beth might have had a quieter week at the BotB, but she's probably been as active as anyone, Naomi too, so if I was them, I'd personally rest up since they are already in the Classic week as you say (Beth surely already done enough), but I suppose on the other hand, the potential extra $6k must be appealing to them in these uncertain times, and Naomi has already proven she can win it, and reached a further final. Lissey will have to play to have any chance of securing her place herself, but with her having already played here, and one of the higher ranked to do so, and being fairly well involved backstage in British women's tennis, she may be a front runner for one of the 3 WCs, especially if they are going to players who've already competed here, and not just to the bigger names like Raducanu, Boulter, Swan (injury permitting) etc.

So going back to the unofficial points table from the start of the week:

Broady (q) 33,
Grey 27,
Appleton 20,
Christie 19,
Maloney 16,
Rawson 13,
Burrage (q) 12,
Silva (q) 12
Lumsden 9

Staff 8,
Barnett, Amos 7.
Bissett 6
Dissanayake 5, Deigman 5. Gillan 5.
Morton 4, Mpukusa 4, Rajecki 4, Arbuthnott 4

It's shaping up quite nicely. Sonay or Emily Arb will secure their place tomorrow, both will need a win though because a runner up spot won't see either in the guranteed 9 spots. Maia will definitely be pushed out as well, so she'll either need to play next week, or rely on a WC if she wanted to be invovled in the Classic. Emily Ap, Freya, and particularly Eliz and Nadia will have all added fairly significant points to their respective tallies, but one of those would definitely miss out if there was another new winner next week (not currently in the top 9).

Should be an interesting week ahead.

Indeed, an interesting week ahead. SBG has already qualified, her name is missing a (q) above.

Is that based on next weeks entry list? Because although she looks absolutely nailed on, there could be a very outside chance that her points tally was passed by enough players to push her out, at least mathematically anyway, but that would depend on most of the players below her entering, and doing enough, but if they are definitely not involved then they obviously can't pass her.

E.g. If Sonay won tomorrow, and I don't know, Lissey won the title next week - you'd have 5 guaranteed winners. If Emily Ap finshed 5th this week, she would add 8 points and move on to 28, above Beth. Freya could be on 25/26 by Sunday, Eliz 25/26, Nadia 22/23, so if those 3 played next week, and Beth didn't, and they got like 4-9 points then those 3 could join Emily Ap, and the 5 champs as your final 9, before the WCs, but as I say, if you know the full line up first hand, and that some of those players definitely aren't playing, then yes, Beth will have already qualified.
