Weeks 27-32 - UK Pro Series - St George's Hill, Weybridge - (Hard)

It's still pretty tight because that Alice set means Millie is definitely bottom 2, and the top 4 all play each other tomorrow. For the group's sake, hopefully they have Eliz vs Nadia first, because if they have Emily Ap vs Alice, and Em wins in straights, then the top 2 is already decided, whereas a potential Nadia win first would make it pretty interesting, and if Eliz did win, then Alice vs Emily would be a straight shootout.

Good fight back from Millie though who lost the first set, and was down a break a couple of times in the second.

Emily Arb takes the first set 6-1 (against Freya), so if she wins the next set, she is through, and it will also basically see Sonay through as well, before their meeting tomorrow.

Emily Arb 6-1 6-4 over Freya, so she moves on to 11 points and has qualified. Sonay is on 8, and if she beats CVA, which seems inevitable, then Sonay would be through as well. A MTB win would allow either Freya or Erin a chance to join her on 10 points, but Sonay would have the better H2H record over both, so any win here would do, and it would then basically be a match between Emily Arb and Sonay tomorrow to determine 1 and 2.

I wonder why Freya is so inconsistent. One day she plays 's as if she could almost everyone at SGH (maybe not the top players who have appeared there), and another week she loses matches to lower ranked players. Two crushing wins this week, and then two losses. (Not to take anything away from Sonay and Emily - but I was expecting a lot more from Freya)

I've not seen any of it, but Sonay took the first set 6-0 in 18 mins, dropping 4 points, and is already 3-0* up in the second, dropping just the 3 more points. Pretty pointless stuff really.

She did manage a deuce game in the second, but all over in 40 mins. 0 and 0.

So Sonay and Emily Arb both on 11 and the winner of their match tomorrow will top the group. Erin vs Emily M to round off the day and an Erin win would seal a top 4 playoff finish, and if so, 1 would play 2, 3 vs 4, and 5 vs 6 tomorrow to sort out the final group standings.

Erin 6-2 6-0, won at least 9 games in a row, as it was 3-2 at one stage in the first set.

Not the most interesting of days in Group A tomorrow. Winner of Sonay-Emily Ar will finish 1st, loser 2nd, winner of Freya-Erin 3rd, loser 4th. Winner of Emily M-CVA 5th, loser 6th, no matter the margin of victory for any if them, and nobody can jump up or down a playoff grouping, so not the most exciting.

I'm pretty sure this is how the groups are looking after 4 matches:

Group A

1) Emily Arb W4, PTS 11
2) Sonay W4, PTS 11
----------------------------------------
3) Freya W2, PTS 7
4) Erin W2, PTS 7
----------------------------------------
5) Emily M W0, PTS 0
6) Camille W0, PTS 0

Group B

1) Eliz W4, PTS 11
2) Emily Ap W2, PTS 8
-------------------------------------
3) Alice W2, PTS 7
4) Nadia W3, PTS 7
--------------------------------------
5) Millie W1, PTS 3
6) Danielle W 0, PTS 0

Not often you'll win 3 out of 4 matches and still find yourself 4th like Nadia, but I guess it just shows the importance of the MTB system here. She could beat Eliz tomorrow, to win 4 out if 5, but still wouldn't advance to the SF if either Alice or Emily Ap win their match (against each other) in straight sets.

Friday's OOP:

10am
Sonay vs Emily Arb (to decide A1)
NB 11.15am
Emily M vs Camille (to decide A5)
NB 12.30pm
Freya vs Erin (to decide A3)
NB 2pm
Alice vs Emily Ap
NB 3.30am
Nadia vs Eliz
NB 5pm
Millie vs Danielle (to decide B5)

It's a shame Eliz vs Nadia isn't on before Emily Ap vs Alice.

Emily Arb 4-6 6-3 10-4 over Sonay to top the group and face one of Emily Ap/Alice/Nadia tomorrow in the SF. Sonay plays Eliz in the other SF.

Emily M beat Camille 6-0 6-2, to probably set up another meeting with Danielle tomorrow. It'll be against Millie if Danielle can win that match in straight sets a little later, although that's pretty unlikely.

Not much on the line, but Freya 3-1* over Erin, 3 breaks in the first 4 games there.

Emily App just lost 9-11 in the tiebreak v Alice Gillan. Emily looked visibly tired. Maybe all the past few  weeks of playing finally taking a toll. Alice won 0-6 6-3 11-9

Alice was a big 11/2 or 6.50 to win that one. So she is on 9 points, as is Emily. Nadia currently on 7, and by my records she'll need to beat Eliz in straight sets to finish second. If she loses, Emily and Alice will be on 9 with Alice a better H2H record, if Nadia beats Eliz 2-1, she will join them all on 9, but again, Alice would have the better H2H, so Emily is out (of the top 2), and Nadia needs to win 2-0 here to join Eliz in the semi's.

Nadia half way there, 7-5. I'd like Nadia to finish top 2 over Alice, so since Eliz has already topped the group, I'd like Nadia to win - it's a bit strange not wanting Eliz to win a match - think it's the first time that's happened at SGH.
