Week 28 - Progress Tour Women's Championship - NTC, Roehampton, UK (Outdoor Hard)

Commentators said earlier Emma R is fit enough and intending to play the tiebreak tens event tomorrow.

Good match between Katie and Jodie. Jodie still looks a decent prospect. Good groundings and lots still to improve on.

Lissey won 2-6 7-6(4) 6-4 in 2 hrs 49 mins. Considering she won a 2hr 30 min 3 setter against Maia yesterday, while Freya had the day off, plus even had 1 hr 38 on court in that 'non match' with Swan on Tuesday, plus Freya probably having the higher peak, I'd actually consider it an advantage losing this next match between Jodie and Katie.

I guess so, purely for being positioned to get to the final and the better rewards that come with that.

But pesumably they still want to sharpen up their skills snd mstch plsy and have challenges, so just go for it girls.

They were both wanting to win, and the 2 hr match time would suggest as much. I caught it from about 3-3 in the final set, and there were some long games there, but it was a bit weird watching as I was wanting Katie to win (simply for the reasons I stated above), and Jodie saved 3 MPs at 4-5 *0-40, and a further 2 in the TB, and I was thinking you're potentially going to have to play on for a further hour+ (if it went the distance) just to face possibly a tougher opponent. There's obviously a lot of pride and bragging rights at stake, being 2 of our better women, plus a natural will to win, and being played to a larger audience than normal, but this being Jodie's 14th match in 15 days, and looking increasingly redder in the face towards the end, I was pleased when it was over.

Katie would likely be more happier with the match time seeing as she wasn't tested massively the past couple of days, in addition to the long COVID lay off.

For the record, Katie beat Jodie 6-3 7-6(5)

Jodie and Freya withdrew from their doubles match with Esther Adeshina and Sonay Kartal
Alicia and Olivia beat Emily Arbuthnott and Anna Popescu 6-2 6-2

Presumably they're out of the doubles altogether,  therefore?

Thus making one semi stronger than the other:

Barnett/Nicholls v Burrage/Christie

Adeshina/Kartal v Arbuthnott/Popescu

Another example of what can happen when the order of play is done incorrectly.

Assuming Allen beat McCutcheon how has the triple tie between Allen/ Nicholls/Richardson been resolved? Does any one know please?

I have since heard that it was Jodie that withdrew. Probably a wise move given the number of matches she's played.

And yes, the semis and hence the final are now not what was expected

I think they're still in as group runners-up. Whether they should be is another matter!

Since they each beat one of the others, I'm going to guess that it could well be on sets won and lost. Richardson 5-2, Nicholls 4-2, Allen 4-3

Nouveau concept. Not playing a match but still in the tournament ...........

Yes it could be but the problem is that only Richardson played Daley. I think that results against withdrawn players do not count. So could be Nicholls 4-2, Richardson 3-2, Allen 4-3. Similar sort of problem in the other group for second place. Miller won 1 and lost 2 while Gibson won 1 and lost 1. If Miller's loss against Hill is discounted she then beats Gibson by one set.

Did all 3 play each other? H2h within the 3?

Indeed. I should have thought the organisers would wish them to have some of penalty. The screening companies decrease the tournament pay out for each match which is not played!

Looking at the tables on the results page, they seem to be counting all the matches at the moment. Probably need to check it in the morning, see if they have changed it.
