Week 28 - Progress Tour Women's Championship - NTC, Roehampton, UK (Indoor Hard)

Nice one Jon.

I'm quite looking forward to this - if the field holds then it's fairly decent and should bring about some decent matches - Heather, Harriet, Katie B, Fran and Maia in addition to the bulk of those involved in the British Tour event starting this Thursday. No idea who the final WC will be (assuming it's not Konta). There are 5 competing on Thursday (Amelia R, Grace P, Eliz M, Tiff W and Marni B) who are not involved here, so the most logical solution would probably be to award it to anyone who does reasonably well there (Grace and Amelia face each other in R1). I suppose there's also maybe a possiblity of Katy or EWS being ready and getting involved, although that would be slightly disappointing as they could have entered originally and then withdrew nearer the time if required - the same sort of applies to Heather, but it's a bit different because that's a coup, and adds a lot more value / interest to the event, whereas it's more Katy's and EWS' level. Not too sure of any other possibilities with both Katie S and Naiktha currently out of the country.

I'm sure I read a while ago that they might look to televise the finals, although I've not seen anything about this since. Perhaps Prime or the BBC red button could get invovled, but to be honest, as it's on the LTA YouTube's page, everyone can watch that, and many will also be able to get it on their TV's anyway.

Katy, Gabi and EWS noticeably absent so far from any of the events, and I'm not really expecting them to appear here either.

I hope they do set up a stream for more than just one court, as I'm sure there will be plenty of interesring matches.

Looking at Heather's entry on tennis forum the final wildcard has gone to Danielle Daley.Your assumption above seems to be correct.

Also Emily Arbuthnott has a direct acceptance as Fran Jones has withdrawn. The doubles wild card has gone to Vicky Allen and Sasha Hill.

Meh. Would have preferred Marni seeing how she's 3 years younger (well at the moment anyway), and beat Danielle 4 and 0 at Sunderland before lockdown.

So Fran out as SB says, hopefully the rest can hold together as much as possible.

Online is good, that is probably easier to access for many (ie the BBC website) than Prime was last week.

Lineup looks good, should be a good event

Michael, I deleted a couple of your posts and some other posts that were about the current British Tour event rather than the Progress event in 2 weeks time, week 28.

Yes thanks for that Indy I realised after that I had indeed probably got weeks and events confused for now. Guess some of us will get the hang of things again soon confuse

I can also see these threads getting confusing with so many different tournaments going on, haha, but I just saw that Tennis on Telly lad tweet that this Progress event will have Rob Curling, Nick Lester, Gigi Salmon and Naomi Cavaday all involved, so with confirmation of the BBC online coverage, it's fanstastic that the women have got an event which may well end up similar to what the men had with the BotB. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed watching the British Tour matches on YouTube, and am really interested in the Emma vs Marni match tomorrow, but this is going to feel a lot more important. Good stuff.

I've absolutely NO idea which tour is which, or why, or where, or anything really....

I tried googling the other one (UK Pro?) and found nothing.....and am lost on this one too.

I'm just hoping some sympathetic posters on this forum put up details of streams and links, and whatever..... thanks in advance !

I'm trying to stay on top of things, and am going to put together a Word doc so I know who's playing where, dates, if streams are available etc. but I did try and look for that UK Pro Series thing you mentioned (its supposed to start next week, two groups, 12 players involved ranging from Jodie to Kimberly M, and with the MTBs even if you win 2-0), but I see most of the links on Twitter have now been deleted, so I'm not sure if that is significant...

I do have fairly high hopes for this Progress event though.
