New Poll Event - favourite former foreign player (grand slam finalists )

Mens semis polls are over and we now know 8 of the 9 mens finalists.

With their vote tallies to date shown they are:

McEnroe, Newcombe - 13 votes over the 2 rounds

Rosewall - 12 votes

Edberg - 11 votes

Mecir - 10 votes

Agassi, Connors - 9 votes

Ivanisevic - 8 votes (also got through a first round tie play off, also the only player who saw their votes increase in the semis).

They will be joined by the tie play off winner from

Ashe - 9 votes to date

Okker - 8 votes to date

This is very much going to be an open event!

Polls will go up for the finals after 5.30 pm once the tie play off is completed

Semis had 70 and 67 votes respectively, so around an average of 23 per poll. Just a little behind the British event (the semis there averaged around 24/25) held last week or two, but not doing too badly.

The pattern seems to be we get virtually all the activity arising in the evening, so I expect the same will happen here, although the weekend might spread it out a little but. But hopefully worth a check in this evening !

Remember the top 4 will join the Favourite of Favourites event next week - all of the men left are not in that yet, so 4 more will qualify. A couple of the womens have already qualified but we will see another 2-4 women join that field.

Shame that there's no chance of a Borg v Mc Enroe final - even more so that it's Bjorn who doesnt make the cut.

Back in their day, I'd imagine a popularity poll of the pair of them among British tennis fans would have been around 95;5 in Borg's failure.

Sorry, misphrased that. I meant I'm surprised, not that it's more of a shame that Borg didnt go through. I much prefer McEnroe personally, always did, but thought myslef in a small minority.

I was always a massive McEnroe fan, loved his play and his antics. I liked connors, agassi, noah, leconte, gerulaitus,  becker as well, cash, kyrgios now. I like flair and personality in my players. So mac always had it above Borg for me as well.

It was the 80s though, and in britain people didnt go for that sort of behaviour. In the us definitely they liked it though!

Finals are up - and they promise to be very close I think!

In the mens we have 4 US, 2 Australian players, in the womens 2 US and 1 Australian. They are the top 2 countries in terms of our historical favourites (6 US , 3 Aussies) it seems.

Polls will be closed at 5.30pm Saturday

25 votes in the finals, in line with our other polls including foreign players. The favourite current and favourite former Brit polls seem to have been the two most popular generally.

Hopefully the favourite of favourites polls will appeal to everyone as we find out THE favourite of the board.
