New Poll Event - favourite former foreign player (grand slam finalists )

All the mens tie breaks going similarly to the womens last night, could go down to slam history as it stands. Just 1 vote in each group

Henin got 11 votes, just ahead of Clijsters and Li Na with 10 in round 1. Belgians leading the way!

Borg topped the mens with 9 votes, Laver and Newcombe both got 8.

122 mens poll votes in so far, some great activity. Thanks Rosamund again for your insights. !

Summary of positions in groups before bedtime

Womens has 43 votes from 3 groups so far, so tracking 15 to 20 percent more than mens average last night, and that is in line with the final round 1 votes. Seems the womens has that slight appeal more on this board.

Slight revision to schedule. Mens semis will still go up tomorrow and finish Friday 6pm. Any ties play offs will take place friday evening. As Brittak pointed out, having more than one poll at a time works better , more interest, and so both finals polls , men and women, will go up Friday night around 11pm , once the ties are settled, and will both finish together saturday night.

59 votes in 3 womens groups. That ratio beats how the mens actually ended! I hope that's a sign of things to come and there are more in tomorrow, let's see how it pans out. Good exciting semis and , having made the mens draw just now, that's also looking good as well.

A reminder the womens semis close at 6pm this evening, Thursday. Ties play offs , if required, will run from then to 11pm.

Mens semis will be posted tonight around 6pm as well, running until tomorrow evening.

Work commitments  moving around so slight plan change.

I will now post the mens semifinals sometime mid pm before 3 pm certainly today, so a few hours earlier than planned.

I am then on meetings/calls with the States until around 7pm, so will aim to close the ladies semifinals and start any tie play offs slightly later than planned, around 7 pm instead of 6pm. Just in case anyone goes on the board looking for what the final results are and to vote in the tie play offs. From experience, the tie play offs will still be fine to run through to 11, most folks voting vote in the first couple of hours and we dont want these things running until midnight!!

So:

Mens semis - posted to start before 3 pm

womens semis - close around 7 pm

womens semis ties playoffs - posted around 7 pm and close around 11pm

Interesting the dynamics of these votes, lots of evening voting and then quiet on the 2nd day, which is something to keep in mind for future events and timing of polls etc!

Mens semifinals posted, close at 1 pm tomorrow. Group C is randomly drawn but seems to be an Aussie/US fest with a couple of interlopers!!

Enjoy!

My instinct is to call the ladies semis now but a part me anticipates that there are loads of forumites out there finishing their days work at c. 5, 5.30 and waiting to rush on the board and vote around 6, so I will hold out and await!!

Mens semis seem to all have a similar voting pattern so far, me thinks there is a conspiracy going on PM behind the scenes and I have been left out! Most likely engineered by Indy and Michael D I suspect

Scurrilous

Re calling polls early, yes patience, there could also be folk purposely holding off voting until much closer to the previously announced deadline.

Indy hasn't announced who has voted for in Group C, in the other two groups I've voted for different people wink
