2nd Knockout Round. 44 progressed from 1st Round in 4 groups of 9 and 1 group of 8.

Competition hotting up now! This one looks brutal!

Top 3 plus ties in each group qualify for SF.

Polls close Wednesday morning at about 10.00

This is a loaded group with Laura, Sue and Bally!

I agree with Rosamund. I want to vote all 3 of those in this group but for no-one in Group B!! I understand it's a random draw, but from my point of view the groupings haven't worked out very kindly

Yes, i went for all 3 of these in R1. And they are 3 of the 5 that got 10 or more votes. Will all 3 make the SF?

I know, I know!!

I was so tempted to change it when it all came up - it really was random!
Each player was allocated a number and I used a website which pulled out random numbers for me to ensure it was all fair. I could have used a seeding system but that might not have worked across all groups very fairly and I wanted to try and not put my own bias on anything.

I guess there might need to be some interesting voting patterns here!

Good stuff. Quite right not to change it.

ended up voting for Bally, could have been others but I am afraid she and her story connects with me the most

As we know, difficult choices here but I have ended up going with Sue. Really enjoyed the time when she broke through to the really top level of womens tennis in 1976/77. She never seemed to be the same though after losing to Betty Stove in the 77 Wimbledon SF - a match I remember vividly.

I saw Sue Barker's last tour win, Wimbledon first round 1984. She lost to a 15 year old Steffi in the second round, which I also saw. I remember both matches very well.

For those who dont know, Jane O'Donoghue coaches Katy Dunne currently.

Still a number of votes perhaps to come in here. I suspect a few might be holding their selection to the last minute!

At the moment you would have to favour Sue and Bally getting through with Laura dependent on any last minute shift to Naomi and the others close behind.

Players through to SF

1st Elena Baltacha 6

2nd Laura Robson and Sue Barker 4.

Jane O Donoghue gave them a run for their money though with 3 votes.
