Went for Chris Bailey. Nick Brown beat Goran, Chris B took him to 5 sets. Why on earth couldnt Tim Henman have beaten Goran that year???

Think Ill stick with Chris Bailey on this one.

Yes if it hadnt rained Tim would definitely have made the final that year.

Jeremy Bates looks to be in a bit of trouble in this group...

Colin Dowdeswell played tennis under the Rhodesian flag, then Switzerland and the for GB. He was a stockbroker who ended up with Merrill Lynch and lives now in Monte Carlo. He also reached the Wimbledon doubles final in 1975 with Allan Stone and probably had more success in doubles, although he won a tour title in Istanbul and played in 3 other finals in Dublin and joburg (twice) in his singles career.

Interestingly Marcus leads the way here and Chris Bailey and Jamie Delgado seem to be secure in joint 2nd place. There are a number still to vote in this group so it could still change.

Brittak asking for more pics. So let's try this one. If Marcus was to win this vote outright, he might earn about as much as he did in Móstoles after costs were taken into consideration. He always claimed that despite winning in singles and reaching the final in doubles, he was up just 60 euros after paying for flights, hotels, food etc.

And if you are really bored and want the highlights of that particular final - May 2015, Mostoles, Madrid.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIxhMYwmzYw

There are no highlights of the first set and a half, because Marcus had requested that the final was brought forward a couple of hours so that he could catch his flight, but nobody had told the cameraman.

Best part of the video is the slow-mo of Marcus going face down on the court after the winning point.  Just watch the enthusiasm (or lack thereof) of the spectators behind the fence. They were NOT happy.

PS. Blue seats - right hand side - furthest away from camera - light blue/turquoise shirt - yours truly wink

Good stuff.

I was drawn to vote for Msrcus again. I think many of us wanted him to succeed more than he often seemed to be really bothered himself!

Without wishing to reopen the debate we had on Laura Robson, are we saying that Marcus is now retired from tennis? Wasnt he planning on giving doubles a real go or did I get that wrong?

Dont get me wrong, I dont mind him being in this poll, that isnt really the question, it is more what actually is his current status?

I did allude to it right at the start. When I put this all together I thought he had retired and therefore qualified for the poll. I found out later that he has made a bit of a comeback (playing 4 tournaments) and picked up 10 doubles ranking points before the shutdown started. I think I heard it said that he was going to give it a real go!

So I guess he isnt retired.........

Players into SF

1st Marcus Willis 7

2nd Jamie Delgado

3rd Jeremy Bates, Chris Bailey and (qwc) Sean Thornley all 3

Marcus leads the way here. Jeremy Bates seemed to pick up some late support and another of the qualifying wild cards still going strong.
