Personally I think it is better that Laura is not in a current players vote because she has not played for 11 months and it is possible that her playing career is over.
I know it is probably pedantic, but as others have said, surely Laura can't be a former player. Loving seeing all the great names from the past though and it is a really good competition.
Laura could be a former player because in a recent interview she said after her hip operation she stil cannot run. Additionally she has not played for 11 months.
I'm sure Laura would appreciate some of the optimism being expressed here that she will play competitively again, but as Rosamund notes she won't.
If you search her name on the WTA players site you won't find it... only on the ITF site. Her WR 27 CH was achieved on 8 July 2013 when she was just 19. Now she is still just 26 but her career as a player has long gone sadly, without her having any opportunity to show what kind of player she might have matured into. She is a former player full stop.

Hi guys - I'll think you'll find it is all some light hearted banter. Chill.
Just a slight aside but I was thinking of how Laura's -potential was not fulfilled. It's extremely unfortunate but with Laura, Heather and Jo we had the foundations of what could have been in the top flight of the Fed Cup if not finalists.France won the Fed Cup with Garcia and Mladenovic and basically they were no better than our players.

Banter being taken in the good-natured spirit that is intended.
I knew it could turn out to be controversial as I typed Lauras name in but she does fit the criteria of the competition that I set out at the start which doesnt use the term former player (although very sadly this might well turn out to be the case, although we would all be delighted to be proved wrong) but not currently ranked.
Using that terminology, if I had omitted her, I am sure somebody would have pointed that out in reverse!!
21 votes here , between Sue Mappin and Kaye Hand (related to Paul Hand?) for 4th spot
Probably mentioned elsewhere but they are brother and sister. Saw Kaye at the Natkonals at Telford and she was the sort of player who worked her way into matches a bit like Kimiko Date.
