She got my vote as well but I think she was a better player than Naomi. She did at least win a WTA singles title  in 1988 and it was another 24 years before a British player(Heather Watson) matched this achievement.

Looking  at this group Sara Gomer, Valda Lake  and Karen Cross were  all born in Devon. There are an amazing  number of  female players running from 1968 to probably the start of the 21st century  who were born in Devon.  Without checking fully apart from the above 3, Sue Barker, Corinne Molesworth, ,Jackie Fayter, Penny Moor ,Lucie Ahl  and Judy Congdon all come from Devon. I think there was the Arthur Roberts influence somewhere along the way. We could have had one group of just Devon born players.

Torquay used to host a big event each year at the Palace Hotel as well, was it the Dewar Cup, and an annual under 21 event that was effectively the u21 world championships.

Arthur Roberts was coach at the Palace Hotel for many years. Yes the Dewar Cup was held there . It was supposed to be a favourite venue of the players.

I had omitted an 11th Devon player, Jo Louis who was born in Hitchin but represented Devon.

The Devon discussion is interesting. Although not in this group, surely Sue Barker came from Devon as well.

Not sure about Devon men. Mike Sangster was definitely the best.
