New poll events - British players since 1968 not currently ranked

A quick summary at 5pm.

Thanks to everyone who has voted so far and for all your comments and discussions. This is all certainly taking me down memory lane and we havent even got properly started yet!

Voting continues overnight if anyone still wants to and we will move onto the next bit which I hope will stoke up even more discussion!

Men

18 players have at least 2 votes as it stands with a further 9 having scored 1.

So to have any chance of saving the latter, anyone who hasnt yet voted will have to vote for them by the morning.

A few with some quite high scores including one who (as we have found out this afternoon) perhaps shouldnt have been included as he still has a low world ranking but seems to be very much a part-time player!

Women

Overall the women seem much more polarised despite the polls having many more players who did actually play Wimbledon and less topped up by my WCs.

13 players have at least 2 votes with a further 8 having scored 1.

Anyone on 1 will currently be eliminated unless they are saved by those who still have a vote to give.

Still much to play for ahead of the main event.

Current plan is

Round 1 - goes up Sat evening and closes Monday morning.

Round 2 - goes up Mon evening and closes Wednesday morning

SF - goes up Wednesday evening and closes Friday morning

Womens Final - Friday Lunchtime until Saturday 6pm

Mens Final - Saturday Lunchtime until Sunday 6pm

Bonus round to run from Late Sunday to Monday 6pm (More to come!)

Obviously might change as we move along dependent upon other things I might need to do but hopefully I can stick to the schedule.

Hope with your Round One plan that you leave it until Monday morning proper and not midnight - I work a 15 and a half hour shift on Sunday, so no chance to vote otherwise.

Oh yes definitely - will be something like 10am (For Monday and the other days as well). It just needs to be enough so that I have time to get the next round up for later that day.

and also hope that I will get the polls up by around 8pm

gosh - I dont envy you such a long shift. That must be really hard so keep healthy

 A bonus round! Whoa!

As an aside -  I am enjoying this as we had run various polls and events looking at the current British and  foreign players in various guises and we sort of now no who the board likes most - Andy Murray, Dan Evans and Heather Watson in the various British polls came out consistently top and Petra Kvitova and Juan Martin Del Potro in the foreign players.

Anyway, an open era but not current ranked foreign players event would be cool - something like youve done here, maybe Slam champions (of any of the 4 in singles) and Masters Series (or equivalent as there have been different incarnations) would make up the bulk of the players with byes and then something to decide qualifiers like players who have been in a Slam final but not won a slam, or a semi, depending on numbers or Davis and Fed Cup winning players. Not sure but it would be good to look at foreign names and get nostalgic like this is doing for the Brits (and we are only in the early stages of this as well!!).

Yes it would be a huge undertaking.

This Brit poll has been pretty big to pull together but should get easier once the first round is over.

Looking back at the players from the past has reminded me of so many things so I have enjoyed it too!

Just a quick reminder that qualifying will close in just over half an hour and any votes after that wont be counted, so if there are any last ones to cast, please get them in.

List of qualifiers will be out around lunchtime with the first round up later this evening/tonight.

The first round will be a random draw using a number generator website I have found to ensure fair play! It will be interesting to see if any groups of death emerge.

Thanks everybody for contributing so far.

Like the random number generator site idea!

Excellent , that all worked out neatly, all with 2 votes got through and you've got 80 in the main draw of each! A plan that works! Do you know anything about PPE?!

Great. Thanks Brittak. I guess the proliferation of wild cards near the top is because they are more recent players and hence better known.

Women's First Round Polls are up.

A reminder that 1st round groups consist of:-

- Members of Federation/Fed Cup Teams

- Additional players that were part of Wightman Cup Teams

- Players that won at least one singles match at Wimbledon

- Players from qualifying including one Lucky Loser

This is now knockout.

Top 4 from each group to qualify for 2nd Round

it looks to me like there a couple of humdingers in there!!!!

Men's to follow in a while
