Interestingly, in the final tally in the semis, Heather got 6 votes out of 20 cast in her group.

In the final, she has 8 out of 20...presumably either people are swapping or different folks are voting in the final...

And maybe some tactically voted too.

I think this vote also reflects that Heather had a much better early part to this year than her fellow Brits, particularly Jo... Plus her smile always helps..

I think it's also a feature of the voting format which isn't a straight knock-out. In the semi I knew 4 were going through to the final and since Heather was already safe I voted for someone else. In the final there's only one winner so I just vote for my favourite player.

3 hours left and no change. Heather is into the start of the last lap and 100 metres ahead of the pack, can anyone chase her down?

Yes, my votes have been going all over the place in these early rounds to try and get different players through.

In the final I was never going to vote for anyone other than Heather.

Oooh. I never even thought of such subterfuge taking place on here smile

Final 2 hours, looking hard to see anyone beating Heather now but there are sometimes a few late votes, so you never know!

6.30 close!

Pleased to see Katy Dunne a player who has only played 1 singles match at Wimbledon and 2 main draw matches on the WTA tour in her whole career(not winning any of them )  proving a favourite WTA player. I know a lot of work went into this but it would have proved far more interesting if the draw had been the top 64 WTA womens  singles players excluding anybody British(i.e. Jo Konta) and then we could genuinely have seen who the favourite  non British player was. We could have seen how popular Coco Gauff was etc.

I am sure you are right and it is good to learn from these things. I was going to be defensive for a second but heh, no point, but perhaps someone would be willing to take up the cudgel and have a go at one of these events? I have a big work load (work, work) over the next 6 weeks or so and will therefore struggle to organise any thing different but would certainly take part if someone gives it a go!

And indeed there are no voters!

Heather Watson is the winner and the Boards favourite womens tennis player!

Although I suspect some here may dispute that and the debate may rage!

Well done to Heather !

I assume it is allowed. I certainly don't want to be reported to the Tennis Integrity Unit  wink

Yes, I'm happy to set up favourite foreign ATP and WTA players. We can have all 3 of favourite overall, favourite British and favourite foreign. All the results are interesting, so noone is in the wrong here and thank you to Jon for two of these.

I had been thinking of just single biggish finals for each but yes, I could certainly make them top 64 singles ranked as ROSAMUND suggests and have 3 rounds. For some reason I seem to have a lot of spare time. There is no real evidence from the past contests that we need to include doubles players to arrive at the favourites. Sorry doubles supporters, though feel free to argue that point.
