Actual Tennis during Covid Time

No idea where to put this but general seemed better than mens because there (presumably) will be so little that it's best to put it together, if any women also manage to play at all. And no idea really what happened after - I found a clip of Harry playing Rafael Ymer (presumably brother or cousin to the other two???) - but haven't found result sheets, and the clip was on 11th April, which didn't really make sense as he wasn't listed as one of the SFs on the 10th.......

Anyway, thanks to steven for a bit of actual tennis news re GB player (even if I'm pretty lost as to what's actually going on):

Meanwhile, over in Sweden, a tennis tournament is going on (no spectators and in line with their current national guidance, but still ...), and , who seems to have convinced the Swedes that he's a peer of the realm, is among the semi-finalists

Is Harry a peer of the realm? Or is there some missing punctuation? As in: Lord! Harry Wendelken!

Not actual tennis, but actual tennis politics - Roger Federer has started a debate, gathering support, at merging ATP and WTA into one governing body. Lots of players expressing their support to it. Rafa has supported it, seems he and Federer already have talked this through. Lots of the womens players. Havent seen Andy comment yet and nothing from Djoko (who may see this as a power play against him?).

Interesting developments

Did folks know that Open tennis started on this day in 1968, in Bournemouth in what was the British Hard Court Championships, on red shale courts. I remember John Clifton, he came to Yorkshire and played for the county for a long while I recall. Owen Davidson won several Wimbledon titles, mixed with Billy Jean King. 52 years ago and a few hours, wow.

The British Hard Court Championships - first tournament of the Open Era started on 22 April 1968 at 1:43 pm at The West Hants Club in Bournemouth. Scottish player John Clifton served and won the first point, but lost his match to Owen Davidson in 4 sets. #OnThisDay

Some young players didn't even let lock down get in the way of training.

Couple of decent looking backhands there.

Well, this is not a mega game changer for Jan, but Jan seems happy, as he's not earnt a penny this year, he says, before the paywall comes down:

British No 9 Jan Choinski one of the very few sportspeople able to compete and earn prize money at this present time. The 23-year-old received a cheque of £435 for finishing third at the exhibition event near his home in Germany last weekend.
