New poll events - favourite ATP and WTA player

Not at all easy - time for some tactical voting away from the obvious favourites !

So, the mens groups are decided and 18 players move into the second round:

Just 4 Brits, Andy Murray, Dan Evans, Kyle Edmund and Joe Salisbury.

14 non Brits in Mahut, Monfils, Nadal, Thiem, Wawrinka, Federer, Kyrgios, Dimitrov, Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime, Zverev, Millman, Berrettini and Ruud.

26 players failed to score a vote and 7 Brits departed in round one.

I will post the semifinal groupings this evening.

Indy, if you have time to close down the ATP First round polls, that would be fab!

Interesting that British men did less well than British women. Also how low the scores were for ' New Brits'- Bains, Choinski and Klein.

Slightly less votes in mens also, I think on balance this board has a slight favour to the womens game, is my judgment, which is of course fine!

158 votes in the wta first round polls (19.75 per poll) and 139 in the mens (17.375 per poll). So 18 to 19 per poll overall.

Be interesting to see if the wta remains that little more popular for voters.

As things stand, we are looking at 11 players in each final out of the 18 who lined up in the semis. Unwieldy but I guess I set the rules. Still time to whittle itself down!

As it now stands, anyone scoring a vote will reach the final. Hopefully, with maybe 4 to 8 votes still to come in each group, the ties will sort themselves out!

A few votes have come in now and shaken the places up a little. Looking a little more like we will have a nicer number in the finals.

3 of the 4 SFs have now moved on to currently having 4 players with 2 votes or more. ATP Group A has 3 players with 2 or more votes and 2 tied on 1 vote.

So 9 ATP finalists and 8 WTA as it stands.

Err, as Jon just said

Good to know someone else is taking a close interest though!

I'll happily own up and admit to voting in the women's section but not the men's - years ago I decided that I preferred to watch women's three set matches to men's five sets, as I could see a lot more matches that way (and I often found myself getting bored on lengthy men's matches), so I felt that although I do take some interest in the men's game, I did not have the expertise to vote. Looks like there was probably one other person who voted in the women's section but not the men's.

So after 37 votes in total across the two groups, the ladies finalists are known:

In vote / rank order (and this is how I will post them for the final):

Jo Konta 33.3%
Heather Watson 33.3%
Petra Kvitova 31.6%
Harriet Dart 21.1%
Katy Dunne 15.8%
Simona Halep 11.1%
Jelena Ostapenko 11.1%
Petra Martic 10.5%
Katie Swan 10.5%

In the final we have 5 Brits, and 4 players from Eastern Europe. Poll will go up this evening.
