New poll events - favourite ATP and WTA player

We recently did one to find the favourite GB player. This time we are going global!

I'm going to keep atp and wta separate.

64 players in each, 8 groups of 8 men, same for women. So 64 men and 64 women.

Top 2 players plus ties in each poll group will get to a semi and then final of 8 players in each of wta and atp. So 16 plus will move through from first round to the semis of 2 groups and 8 plus to final

I'm going to include top 48 singles players, 8 doubles players and then 8 top british singles players. As we have brits in top 48 of each, this means there will be an additional 8 top brits in the 64.

I'll spread brits across and doubles players across the 8 groups of men and 8 groups of women.

First polls will go up tonight, wta side, then atp tomorrow night, wta semis and atp semis tuesday and wednesday, and finals thursday and Friday.

Remember it will be favourite player, polls will remain for 24 hours in total only and results will be counted. If there are ties, and there will be, then more players will stay alive into the next round.

The GB favourite player event worked well and had lots of psrticipatation. Hopefully this will also and favourite players is unambiguous. We will also have 11 British men I calculate and 9 women to make it fun.

First round of 8 wta polls up tonight.

Edit for slight change of structure.

The groups will be drawn in a ranking order to try and make them even across the draw.

Hi Jon I've taken on board this time the word "favourite " and will avoid the comment I made last time when I did not like the way one of the semi finals was going.

No resting, Jon

Be interesting to see how Britcentric our voting will be.

I don't know if you considered an only foreign competition for the favorite foreign player and then a grand final among the most favoured Brits and foreign players.

I did but then decided let's see how our brits stack up we might get some interesting outcomes !

So these polls will be up tonight. First off, 8 WTA groups of 8 players each. Top 2 get through, plus ties. Remember , only 1 vote per person I am afraid, but it is about your favourite and not the best. So, 1 vote in each group is all we need!

People may of course vote tactically, that is down to them so should be interesting.

ATP draws will be up tomorrow night.

Will have the WTA groups up in next couple of hours - my wife is watching Belgravia so I can escape to do this!

WTA polls up - sadly, Coca Gauff missed out just. I had a couple of doubles and singles duplications, Sabalenka, Mertens, Mladenovic and Strycova and so went down to the next players, singles rank 51 and doubles rank 10.

Sorry if anyone wanted Gauff but.. also it meant Group 4 is a little weaker ranking wise than some others but that is the way the cookie crumbles!!

Polls will close around 9 pm tomorrow, top 2 plus ties get through

Tough groups, Jon. I'm undecided about almost all of them, and could do with at least two votes per group !

 Sorry, the Addict!

Just for transparency, the groups were allocated by world ranking as follows: there where a couple of duplicates in the list as some of the doubles players have decent singles rankings and so one or two were replaced by lower ranked players but this was the intended listing. The mens will be similar but not quite the same, aim is to mix the rankings levels up without trying to get in the way of "how things land".

A 1, 16, 23, 30, 37, 44, Doubles  3, Brit 2

B 2, 9, 24, 31, 38, 45, Doubles 4, Brit 3

C 3, 10 ,17, 32, 39, 46, Doubles 5, Brit 4

D 4, 11, 18, 25, 40, 47, Doubles 6, Brit 5

E 5, 12, 19, 26, 33, 48, Doubles 7, Brit 6

F 6, 13, 20, 27, 34, 41, Doubles 8, Brit 7

G 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, Doubles 1, Brit 8

H 8, 15, 22, 29, 36, 43, Doubles 2, Brit 1 (after Jo K)

Indeed you have Danielle Collins WR 51 but not Gauff who is WR 52. Gauff would have attracted far more interest I'm sure and there are one or two groups I would certainly have been tempted to vote for her if she had been in them.

I know, I was slightly disappointed but she didn't make the cut off I'm afraid.

No clashes in mens so cut off will be 48 singles, 8 doubles. We will have 11 Brits in mens as dan, kyle and joe make the cuts plus 8 wildcards.

As things stand at half way time wise, 20 players are in a tie or better to proceed to the semis including 8 Brits. I'm sure it will change! Naiktha would be the Brit heading out of the 9 who I included initially.

Including Naiktha,  28 players not received a vote yet!

Swiatek, Collins, Siniakova and Xu got lucky due to the ranking duplication. Coco would have been next singles player and Groenefeld next doubles.
