I didn't see this one coming. Thought Serena would stroll the SF and then face a problem.
The anti-Serena vote is one of the surest bets on the forum. Not quite the surest bet but probably second.
Apart from Venus back in 2000 I don't think anybody has beaten Serena in a Wimbledon semi final. However at the 2016 Olympics Svitolina did have an easy win over Serena. The crowd is not always on Serena's side at Wimbledon.Having watched on the big screen in 2018 I know alot of people wanted Angie Kerber to win.

Indeed, serena has a 5-1 career h2h over Elina, that Olympics win aside, and thrashed her in New York last september. I voted for a Serena win myself here, like Indy, the result is surprising me!
Remember the US Open last year when Serena wiped the floor with Qiang Wang and then the Australian Open when Wang had her revenge. So Elina might do the same thing next time she plays Serena.

Well, it could he happening here in front of us!
Looking at the polls from previous rounds, Elinas matches get some of the highest views tallies, against Bencic and Dart. So she clearly has a strong fan base, relatively. In this round, this thread has clearly the highest views as well, although the other matches have longer to go and may catch up.
Who knows? I just note that it's a definite and pronounced effect. People hold a grudge against her for perceived indiscretions. Whereas for others like Kyrgios, Sharapova, Fognini or any Brits, with arguably, and in some cases obviously, graver and/or more frequent offences, they're much much more willing to just excuse them or forgive under any number of pretexts. Those pretexts, though equally applicable to Williams, are ignored in the judgment on her.
So, context of these votes, any chance for an anti-Serena result is very far from surprising given that animus.
You could probably put Evo up against a holy-tennis-god-perfecto-bot-of-the-divine-unmissing-flawless-shot, and he'd be given even odds by the forum. Similarly, Serena against a can of Spam, equally might well go to the wire!
