That''s a great shame. Sam gets the highest non-seed (on the acceptance list), and then possibly the next highest ranked player in Katy.

Different doubles partner for Gabi this week, but would you believe it - drawn against Sam and Fanni again

L16:- Samantha Murray Sharan (GBR) / Fanni Stollar (HUN) CR289 (199+90) [1] v Caroline Romeo (FRA) / Gabriella Taylor (GBR) CR1195 (649+546)

Edit:- Rankings corrected

Yes, especially with Simmonds being at home. Sam beat her in 3 sets in last week's QF. Likely to be tough again.

Fanny's a good match for Sam as she's only? 5'8" and Sam is tall.. She's not a bad doubles player either. smile

Gabi served for it at 5-4 in the second.

Got broken.

Nearly broke back.

MTO at 5-6.

And then lost the second set 5-7

Another chance to serve for the match gone, and into a final set TB.

And has made a shocking start to that 0-4.

Gabi has served for the match twice in the 3rd set - so that's 3x she has served for the match overall - and she has been broken every time. She had no MPs too in any of those games.

She's in a final set TB now 0-2 down.

Back on serve (but that's probably a problem...) *4-5.

Well Gabi certainly had her chances in that match. Slightly better stats than her opponent, but all down to the key points. 5-7 in the tie-break.

Lost 6-7(5) in the third cry

If she'd won I'd have still posted this, but it would have been a bit different as the general consensus may then have been 'great battling' etc. but these are Hourigans most recent results stretching back to October:

http://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/wplayer.cgi?p=PaigeMaryHourigan

343 Dunne - 1-6 1-6
481 Ramialison 2-6 2-6
UNR WC Gibson 3-6 4-6
3 wins for NZ against whoever they could have rustled up from Singapore and Pakistan
380 Hontama 1-6 1-6
UNR Brankovic 6-3 2-6 12-10
Wozniacki 1-6 0-6 (can obviously look past this due to the levels)
615 Guillermo 1-6 2-6

So just a week ago she was losing 1 and 1 to Katy at the same venue, which clearly wasn't a one off bad performance going by her other results, nor does she seem to be playing anywhere near that mid 400s ranking judging by who she's been losing to, and especially the manner of the defeats, but then sadly, you can probably say the same with Gabi.

I thought that link up with one of her old coaches (not the main one Budo) may have installed a bit of a spark, and I did include her as my 10th pick - the overwhelming majority of us picked the same 9 players, with the other playing being a bit more varied, but at the moment (Coronavirus aside), it really is hard to see Gabi being close to GB #10 come December.

Just continue to so wish she can find some way(s) to turn things round.

All the best, Gabi.
