If Djokovic, 34, is still unvaccinated, he will require an exception from the US government. These are issued to individuals who are medically unable to receive the vaccine or emergency travellers who do not have timely access to a jab. Humanitarian exemptions are granted on an extremely limited basis.

Should Djokovic not be given permission to enter the United States, he will also be unable to compete in next months Miami Masters. This means that he could potentially lose his world No 1 ranking, as Masters tournaments offer a considerable number of points, second only to the four grand slams.

Similar protocols are also in place for Aprils Monte Carlo Masters, the traditional curtain-raiser to the European clay-court swing. The tournament director Zeljko Franulovic confirmed yesterday that Djokovic will have to follow Covid-19 vaccine passport regulations, with the venue located on French soil only 150 metres from the Monte Carlo border.

If he meets the health requirements of the French government, we will be happy to host him, Franulovic said. He has to be in order. For the moment, as far as I know, he is not vaccinated. As soon as he is in good health with respect to government regulations, we will welcome him with open arms.

Did anyone see the Djoko interview with the BBC last night. On one level it was clearly a publicity stunt and although questions werent shirked - apart from did he falsify is Covid test date , which wasnt addressed and, why exactly are you the only top 100 player that feels it is dangerous to you? - I felt that it was evenly done. Nothing new for those following the events last month but Djoko did say he would be willing not to play French or Wimbledon if he is required to have taken the vaccination. It was clear he certainly wont be able to play the upcoming us events in IW and Miami, and presumably currently Monte Carlo is out as it is on French soil. Whether he will be ok under the rules to play unvaccinated in France
And GB come summer is to be determined i guess.

What it didnt answer and which Is the main question to me, is why he believes the vaccine (or as Fergus Walsh said, the 5 vaccines) is a threat to him and why he wont take it - the only one of the top 100 outstanding now- other than being careful about what goes in his body. Yes, Novak, we get its your choice but what exactly is the problem that makes you the only player not too take it? That wasnt addressed and that was a shame.

Can we please not promote fake news and hoaxes about the vaccines on here? A quick search on that website address and a quick look on it will show anyone that it is an anti vax/conspiracy theory website of the worst sort. Putting its Web address anywhere at all is not helping anyone! We should all have Covid vaccines in my opinion and if we had not got the vaccines it is certain we would be in a lot worse position and some of us wouldn't still be around to post anything anywhere.
If we are on this board can we stick to tennis please?

We don't need to stick exclusively to tennis ( even in the general tennis section ) but do please post responsibly, people.

Though like Christine and Spireman have, generally folk will respond to anything they fundamentally have an issue with. So we have rounded discussions to be viewed and rarely need for deletions.

Yes, I appreciate we don't stick just to tennis completely, which is fine. Just in this thread the mention of that website, which had nothing to do with tennis in this case, not djokovic vaccine related for example seemed unnecessary and potentially fuelling the anti vax fire.

And deaths following the huge number of covid vaccines are in In the huge majority of cases not deaths because of the vaccines which will have saved so many more lives.

That's such a horribly misleading article.

Not Covid related but parallel to the Djokovic incident, Mazepin may find himself in a similar situation with being able to enter the British GP but not Britain.
