RE: Coronavirus - tennis related wef 4th May

Looks like he is going to get vaxxed.  I am pleased about this. I wonder how he and his PR team will play this?

 This would be excellent.

Some people are musing that he might 'fake' getting the vaccine.

(This is a hypothetical scenario, I'm not saying it's likely or true or whatever)

And, IMO, it honestly doesn't matter.

(Well, not much).

The actual risk of one man not having his vaccine is pretty teeny.

However, the message it sends is important (as the Aussie judge found)

As long as Djoko publicly states he's had it, and has his certificate, then that's an important step.

I agree with your sentiments CD.  He  won't fake his vaccination, he knows the world is watching.

This continues to be an interesting story. I'm sick of Partygate! (but I don't forgive Boris).  I wonder when his next press conference will be?

Actually, I'm not saying he won't fake it (I think there's a not negligible chance he does - I just don't want to accuse him of faking it before he even starts, so to speak - and I agree the chance is a lot slimmer given what happened in Oz, as you say, everyone's watching).

But what I meant more, was that it doesn't matter even if he does fake it. Assuming everyone thinks its genuine, that's all that matters re the message it sends. (And if everyone thinks it's not, Djoko has an even worse problem re public opinion)

ADD: I feel your pain but Boris is still one of those prizes that keeps on giving as far as I'm concerned - although with far sadder consequences. Basically, I have Boris, Prince Andrew and Djoko in my 'three complete idiots' list, daily amusement, but unfortunately Boris is just the worst ever and not really funny, just in a 'you've got to laugh or you'll cry' way.

Agree with your list of 3 - the thing about all 3 though is what they lead to:

Novak - will he play future slams and who will end up being the GOAT?!

Andrew - will get end up paying a load of money in settlement, fines, will he get criminally charged, will he bring down the Royal Family etc

Boris - who will come next, will it eventually force an election, will he make Ukraine into his Falklands to divert attention.

Assuming that Mr Djokovic announces that he has been vaccinated, I wonder how he will reconcile himself to the fact that he apparently threw away The Australian Open for nothing?

I'm guessing that anyone who has scanned the headlines this morning has seen this story:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60233902

So, Serbian authorities have said that his Covid tests were perfectly above board.  For me to totally believe them, they need to provide an explanation re. the sequence of numbers  on the PCR certificates.

On the basis that no other country is going to force Serbia and that the ATP clearly hasnt got the balls to push it, I think this will die a death , at least officially, although it will always hang over Djokovic now, which is a shame.

I see Nadal and Federer have both signed up to play Laver Cup in O2 later this year, would be great to see one of Cam, Dan or Andy on the team as well. Pretty obvious Djoko won't be, he'd be torn apart (metaphorically) if he came.

Actually, I don't think that this story will disappear, but I do agree that it will most likely stop being front page news. There will be plenty of press coverage of his vaccination and loads of scrutiny by border force officials, tournaments and maybe even the ATP.  And investigative journalists are going to stop digging just yet!

I agree. For me, nothing has changed, I really do hope someone keeps on this.

I hope the press do, Ben Rothenberg for example probably will. I meant in terms of anyone actually proving that Novak falsified his positive tests, I just think it will get blocked now the Serbian authorities have said "nothing to see here".

Like you both, I hope it wont go away, just feel it might. Although it might keep rearing its head at SLams etc.

Thanks CD, this is very interesting.

The press is reporting that Novak is on the entry list for Indian Wells.  I don't know what the rules will be in California at the time of his arrival.

at this stage, doesnt the entry list for a Masters simply reflect the ranking list, and players then have to purposefully withdraw, which I see Fed and Kei have both done. So I think Djoko will appear automatically until he decides otherwise for this and other Masters...I believe though he has to be vaccinated to enter the USA?
